Iona "Faye" Yates

Iona “Faye” Yates, a resident of New Braunfels, was relieved of her long struggle with Alzheimer’s when she passed away late Christmas night, December 25, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family, just 3 days before her 71st birthday. Faye was born on December 28, 1946 in Leander, TX to Bob Hart and Emalee Maxey Hart. Faye was known as a singer, song writer and Christian evangelist. She had a deep passion for ministering to the broken hearted and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ through her music ministry, and any other means the Lord presented her. She was full of spunk and funny too, yet very serious about her love for the Lord. She recorded six albums in Nashville that were full of music that presented important biblical truths. To Faye the focal part of a song was the message. For this reason, she would often write her own songs in order to proclaim a message that was very personal to her. Although she had the pleasure of working with many notable Christian speakers and ministries across the country, she thoroughly enjoyed every opportunity to sing the national anthem for the San Antonio Spurs, the San Antonio Missions and many other venues. She received a number of awards over the years for her singing and song writing and performed at numerous venues across the country, and several international venues as well. There were also a number of opportunities on various TV and radio programs. In her book, “Thank You for the Valley,” she tells a personal story of triumph when life’s journey took her where she didn’t want to go and is based on the experience of raising April, her Down’s syndrome daughter. Faye also authored and presented a Christian conference entitled “Hope Beyond Imagination”, where she spoke on how to maintain your hope and joy regardless of life’s circumstances. But, above all else, she was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her mother, Emalee Hart and her father, Bob Hart. Survivors include her loving husband of over 43 years, Richard Yates; children, Autumn Hokenson, April Yates, and Crystal Coburn; brother, Don Hart; and 9 beautiful grandchildren. Memorial services are scheduled for 3:00pm on Monday, January 8th, at Oakwood Baptist Church, New Braunfels, TX.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My condolences to the Yates families. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of dear Iona. Some Bible scriptures that have helped me during times of loss include Isaiah 26:19 and Psalm 37:28,29 which states in part: “Your dead ones will live…They will rise up”. And the Bible also says “The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will forever reside upon it”. Therefore the Bible promises that we may be reunited with our loved ones lost in death by means of an earthly resurrection. This is further confirmed by John 5:28,29 which says “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out”. This is possible thanks to Jesus Christ’s ransom sacrifice. Thus we have a genuine hope of everlasting life in a world without wickedness or suffering. I hope that these scriptures will be of some comfort to you.

  2. I have so many memories with Faye and her family. But I think my most memorable memory was for several years she and I had our coffee together over the phone and studied the Scriptures every day. I don’t know anyone who loved and lived Jesus like Faye did. She is missed by many, but it is their turn in Heaven to enjoy her til we get there.

  3. My family went to CHFBC with Faye and her family, got to see her sing quit a few times on Sunday mornings, what a blessing , also saw her singing at some places where she sang on the weekends, what s blessing….I know Faye is singing with the Angels now singing praises to out God…..

    • I found her cassette tape album, “Thank You For The Valley”, in a thrift store, and converted it to MP3 files. I plan to upload it to my YouTube channel so people can still enjoy her music ministry. I personally never heard of Faye Yates before buying this cassette tape for $2. I enjoy converting old audio cassette tapes to digital, especially one like this that is meaniingful to family & friends. I also convert family’s VHS video tapes, 8 mm silent movie reels, slide photos. Just from listening to Faye’s music, I know she is worshipping her King in her eternal resting place, Heaven, with Jesus Christ, so I look forward to meeting Faye there someday soon. Sincerely, Barry Pickens Robstown, Texas

  4. Faye was one of the first people to welcome me to the choir ar Castle Hills over 35 years ago! Friendly, loving, humble, and funny (we shared many laughs and a lot of misbehaving during choir and pageant rehearsals!) But most of all I remember Faye’s beautiful voice and words to her songs that touched my heart like none other. Her love for the Lord was a living testimony for all those who came in touch with this incredible and godly woman. I love you Faye and know you are in the arms of Jesus!

  5. What a blessing Faye was to me, my family and so many others. I’m sure she is rejoicing in heaven with Jesus and my husband, Ken. I especially remember her singing and witnessing at the San Antonio Rodeo and at the Castle Hills First Baptist Church. She led so many people to Christ. Praise the Lord! Love in Christ, Norma Vickrey

  6. I went to Castle Hills First Baptist with Faye and family back in the 70’s/80’s. My oldest daughter was in Autumn’s class at school and I remember well when April was born. We then moved to Bulverde and she and Richard came to give us a little concert at Bulverde Baptist Church. She was a wonderful singer and witness for Christ through music. We shared birthdays too! My best to the family and God bless you all!

  7. we were friends and fans of Faye and Richard while members of Castle Hills Baptist Church. We would travel to surrounding towns to attend her concerts. It was always a highlight for us to see that Faye was singing the special during the Sunday service because she always seemed to really believe what she was singing about our Lord. Even though her talent was of the level that she could have been a star recording artist she felt called to be a witness for Jesus and a devoted wife and mother. Praying for a extra portion of God’s grace for Richard and her daughter’s and their families.

  8. We had fond memories of Faye back in the 70”s. Singing her favorite songs at the Gospel Concerts. my husband. Jack Autry gave. He was on Hymn Time with KDRY–He also now has alzheimer’s at age 83

  9. I have so many countless memories of Faye…her vibrant spirit, her sassiness, her commitment to her craft of making music. It was a joy for me to be a privvy to that fire and enthusiasm and get to go along for the ride. Faye has left a legacy, which we all wish for for our lives, and her people, especially Richard and her family, loved her well as they saw her slowly slip away. I stand in awe of such passion, love and determination of both Faye while she chased life by the tail and for her family her supported her and cheered her on until her final moments. Sending much love. – Laura Neutzling, Sarasota FL

  10. An angel on earth….beautiful Faye touched so many lives and we were blessed to have known her among the Castle Hills family of believers. She radiated and glowed with the love of Jesus inside and out, and her legacy will live forever in her beautiful family and who knew her. You were loved beyond measure and will be dearly missed. Our hearts grieve with you and our prayers will continue to be lifted up to our Lord for you Richard, Autumn, April and Crystal and all your family. She is now whole again and in the loving arms of our Savior. Mike and Cindy Baker
