James Christopher Martens

James Christopher Martens, a resident of New Braunfels, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday morning, June 2, 2018 at the age of 64. James was born on October 12, 1953 in Brownsville, TX to James Christopher Martens, Sr. and Naomi Watkins Martens. He was a firefighter for 25 years including 20 of those years for the City of Arlington, TX. He had a passion for helping others and spreading his faith in God. But most of all he loved being a grandfather to his many grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his father, James Christopher Martens Sr.; and brother, LeRoy Edwin Meyer. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Martens; children, Courtney Melissa Welch, Sarah Katherine Martens, and Jessica Caitlin Kathka and her husband, Steven Michael Kathka; mother, Naomi Watkins Martens; and grandchildren, Trinity Boyd, Matrim Boyd, Tyler Welch, Zoa Welch, Kayden Wise, Serenity Wise, Korbin Wise, Shyla Wise, and Silas Kathka; siblings, Larry Neal Meyer, Rotha LaVerl Burks, and Susan Carol Brandmeir. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Oakwood Baptist Church in the Student Worship Center located at 2154 Loop 337, New Braunfels, TX 78130. All services will end at the conclusion of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital – www.stjude.org.
