  1. We are filled with sadness with the news of our friend John. We met John and his friend Pat in a bar called Hookers on South Padre Island shortly after the turn of the century. At that first meeting we discovered common ground; we both had roots in Roberts County, South Dakota. Over the years we spent much time together fishing, socializing and reminiscing about Northeast South Dakota. Once John joined us for a 2 AM trip to the end of Highway 100 on South Padre Island where we parked the car, placed our lawn chairs in the middle of the road and watched a meteor shower. John loved to tell stories of his grandfather’s farm and of the times he spent working with Sisseton , SD as his home base. He frequently told us of his many travels and it seemed as though he never could muster up the will power to pass by an historical marker along the highway. We have so many fond memories of such a wonderful friend. We will miss him. Thank you for placing the notice of his passing in the Port Isabel Press so we could learn of John’s passing.
