Albert Wong King, 89, passed away in his sleep on October 18, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. Albert is survived by his children Janice, Stephen, Michael and his grandchildren April, Jessica, Nicholas, Alexi, Maxime, Preston, Braighten and siblings Betty Sue, Ben. Albert’s love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Lynn predeceased him a year ago in November 2023.
Albert was born in a family of 5 children to Harry and Fay King in Manhattan NY. Father Harry owned and operated a Grocery Store on the historic Chinatown Mott Street and all the children helped at the store. Eventually the entire family relocated West for warmer climes and to build a better life for the family.
Motivated by a boyhood dream to design cars, Albert designed and built model cars to submit and compete in the Fisher Body Craftsmen Guild, a General Motors national scholarship competition to identify a new generation of car designers and executives. Albert won three first place awards in his Sophomore, Junior and Senior high school years. News of his awards made headlines in the Arizona newspapers. Albert worked as an Art Teacher and in Advertising Art in Manhattan before joining General Motors in 1968 at the GM Technical Center as a clay model sculptor and eventually the Manager of the Automotive Clay Modeling Department. Albert also taught automotive clay sculpting at the College of Creative Studies in Detroit.
Albert and Lynn King raised their three children in Warren and Sterling Heights MI. Albert took early retirement from GM in 1994. In 1999, Al and Lynn relocated to Seattle and eventually moved to San Antonio TX in 2022 to be closer to their daughter Janice.
Albert was a kind, humble, soft-spoken person with a constant smile, and witty nature. Albert was a loving grandfather and he would have art sessions on sketching, painting and calligraphy with his grandchildren. Albert also loved music and he would play the piano and the harmonica to his children and grandchildren especially on their birthdays. Albert has left this world but he has left an indelible mark on our hearts.
Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they showed, the love they shared, and the memories they left behind.
