Allen Clark Porter

Allen Clark Porter, 80, passed away on August 22, 2026 in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on February 22, 1946, to Milton Beverly Porter and Allie Mary Box Porter.

After earning an undergraduate in Physics from Texas State University, where he was also on the track team and threw shot-put and discus, he went on to earn his Master’s Degree in nuclear physics from University of Texas. He was introduced to the love of his life, Sally, through friends, and married in 1970. His first job after college was as Physics professor at Schreiner College. While there, he and Sally welcomed daughter April in March of 1977.

Allen decided to go to TCU in Ft. Worth to pursue a degree in solar energy, but found out about the exciting field of computer programming from a professor there, so he secured a job with General Dynamics as a computer programmer. Allen also enjoyed woodworking, and constructed a lovely dining room table. Then, the family moved to Huntsville, Alabama, where he got a job with Teledyne Brown, who put him on loan to NASA as a rocket scientist. Allen and Sally had son Charles in April 1981. Allen introduced April and Charles to computers, buying a new Apple IIe for the family and a children’s book about computers for April.

In 1984, he got a call from General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin), wanting to hire him back to work as a flight simulator programmer, so the family moved back to Ft. Worth. Allen continued this work until he retired in 2004.

After retirement, Allen and Sally moved to New Braunfels, where Allen was able to have a full separate workshop, from which he built all of the cabinetry for the house. In order to better host the growing family for holidays, he built a larger dining room table with custom chairs and benches. He also built heirloom-quality wooden vehicles for grandson Chase, with whom he bonded and introduced and grew his love of fishing. Chase was a big part of his life.

Allen is preceded in death by his parents (Milton and Allie Porter), and brother Milton Beverly Porter Jr. He is survived by daughter April Porter (Tim) and son Charles Porter (Lindsey), grandson Chase Allen Porter, and brother Nathan Porter (Jean).
