Frances Hamby, lovingly known as Mom, Grandma, Pampie and “GMaw”, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 14, 2026.
She was born on February 26, 1938, in Levelland, Texas, and lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, and a generous spirit.
Frances was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Louise McConnell, her father, Billy Lamb, her brother, Jerry Lamb, her beloved Uncle Teddy and Aunt Rosie, and her cherished son-in-law, Kerry Vaughn.
She is survived by her children, Trina Myers (Mark), Bill Hamby (Jackie), and Donna Vaughn; grandchildren, David Hamby, Lindsay Hamby (James), Matthew Bryan (Ashley), and Michael Hamby; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Dickinson, Alistair Dickinson, and Adaline Bryan.
She is also survived by her sister, Deborah Schmaltz (Kurt), brother Bill Lamb (Peggy), sister-in-law, Susan Lamb; daughter in her heart, Cheryl Garcia (Jorge), along with her extended Vaughn family; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends she loved like family.
Frances dedicated over 30 years of service to the Express-News newspaper. She began her career in the classified ads department where she excelled and later moved into information technology. She was very involved in volunteer work and was selected as the first female chairman to lead the newspaper’s United Way campaign. She built many lasting friendships before retiring.
Frances was a “bonus mom” and “GMaw” to so many of her children’s and grandchildren’s friends, welcoming everyone with open arms and a loving heart. She had a love for traveling and found joy in playing games like Farkle, Skip-Bo, Bingo and Bunco. She enjoyed crafting with one of her dearest friends, Louise. Above all else, her greatest joy was being with her family and cheering on her grandbabies in all their activities.
She was deeply loved by many and will be profoundly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Celebration of Life will be held Saturday February 28, 2026 at 11:00am, Hillside Fellowship 7055 US 281 N. Spring Branch, TX 78070
