Born in: Palestine, TX
Resided in: Uhland, TX

Jeff H. Barnett, age 40, and a resident of Uhland,TX unexpectedly passed away Tuesday morning, November 28, 2023 in Caldwell County. Born on January 16, 1983 in Palestine, Texas, Jeff was the first of four boys born to Roger Barnett and Patricia DeFrance Barnett. He was a quintessential big brother to all his siblings, always there when they needed him. His care for their safety and wellbeing was only matched by their parents. Those traits were not exclusive to Jeff’s family, anyone who knew him felt them, as he was a big brother to all.

As a toddler Roger could not keep Jeff out of the garage; Jeff wanted to help Roger fix cars in any way he could. Jeff built his first car at the age of 14, a ‘66 Dodge Coronet. A garage fire destroyed that car but the tenacious Jeff built another ‘66 Coronet, with which he won many awards.

After graduating from high school, Jeff attended automotive technology courses at Dallas College, where he was greatly inspired by his instructor, Mr. Fant, to be the best automotive technician he could be. He then went on to attend Universal Technical College, where he met the love of his life, Stephanie Howard. After graduating, they briefly lived in the Dallas area before landing in the Austin area.

After 20+ years as an automotive technician, Jeff had just got accepted into a teacher certification program and was excited about starting a new chapter of his life as a high school automotive teacher, again inspired by Mr. Fant.

Jeff, who was a horsepower addict and loved anything motorsport, was a natural born drifter. He went from drifting his big wheels and bicycles as a kid, to his daily drivers as a teenager and young adult, to his purpose-built drift car as an adult. Jeff got so much joy from the drift community and sharing his love of drifting with friends and family. Always the adrenaline seeker, Jeff also found joy in riding his motorcycle.

Jeff was a loving man of intelligence and kindness, always ready to lend a hand and share his knowledge with others.

Survivors include his cherished and loving wife, Stephanie Howard and their beloved dog Zoe; father and mother, Roger and Patricia Barnett; brothers, Eric, Clay and Cooper Barnett and wife, Emily. In addition, Jeff is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the San Marcos River Foundation, to preserve the river Zoe loves to swim in.

  20. Trish, I remember you from SWL/GSL years ago. So very sorry to hear of your loss. God will be with you and your family during this very hard time.

  21. Jeff was one of the kindest and most grateful people I’ve had the pleasure to work with in my 30 yr career in the auto industry. I remember hanging out with him at his stall at Capitol and just seeing him work was so inspiring. He took so much pride in his work and was always helping and mentoring others around him. Rest easy my friend. Prayers for his family.

  22. My deepest condolences to Stephanie and the Barnett family. I had the privilege to work with Jeff. He was the epitome of a true automotive technician. He was never shy to share his thoughts and always backed his word. Jeff’s tenacity and grit to apply himself to his job was immeasurable, he was always willing to help those in need professionally and personally. The best part of knowing Jeff was to consider him a friend. Although we went our separate ways we kept in touch and he always came through when he was needed. I’ll never forget the last conversation we had that stemmed from the automotive business, to cars, and life, which he expressed was great and felt to be in a good place. I am forever grateful for knowing Jeff he will always be thought of when I hear an air tool, scan a vehicle, see a muscle car, spend time in nature, and when having a cold LoneStar.

  23. Trish Trish Trish. I cannot believe this. Words cannot even begin to express how I am feeling right now and especially how you are feeling. Our kids are our most treasured possessions so our kids being practically the same ages, this hits very close to home. I am on vacation now sitting on a bench next to a statue just bawling my heart out. But my prayers for you and your husband and your boys. May he be in Jesus’ and Mary’s caring arms now. I will be praying my rosary for him and especially you. God bless you and your entire family

  24. Dear Roger, Trish and family,

Our thoughts are with you on this very sad occasion. May God bless you and give you the strength to navigate life without Jeff. Sounds like he was an extraordinary young man, and will be greatly missed by so many. Please know that we are praying for all of you.

With our love, John and Diane

  25. I was so heartbroken when I heard about Jeff. There are just no words I can say that would ease your pain and sorrow. Your strong faith and family is what will carry you through. In time your cherished memories will bring some peace and comfort.

  26. Trish and Roger my heart broke again when I heard about Jeff. Glenn and I cried for you. We know exactly how you are feeling. May God wrap his loving arms around Stehanie, you both, Eric, Clay and Cooper. Been praying for your beautiful family everyday. When you’re ready I am here for you. You can call me anytime. I love you always and 4-ever. Rhonda Taylor Carrier

  27. Jeff was a very solid guy. We worked together for quite a few years, he was always there when help was needed. Jeff was an excellent technician, there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. Jeff lightened the mood every Friday at work nearing the end of day during the stressful rush. No matter what happened at work at the end of the day he would completed it with a smile and a hug. Like said before he was very solid guy with a great heart and he’ll definitely will be missed. My condolences to family, just know he will be smiling from above. Bye Jeff.
