Matthew Bradley LyBrand, affectionately known as Brad, suddenly passed away and entered eternal life on February 27, 2026, at the age of 51. Brad was born on March 11, 1974, in Houston, Texas. He lived a life marked by dedication to his family, professional success, and an unwavering sense of humor that brightened every room he entered.
Brad grew up in New Braunfels, Texas where he was a standout player on the New Braunfels High School Unicorn basketball team. He went on to attend Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas where he earned a degree in Political Science.
His career in commercial real estate took him to Houston, where he served as Executive Vice President of the Land Advisory Department at NewQuest Properties. Brad’s professional achievements were numerous and well-recognized: he was honored by the Houston Business Journal as a Heavy Hitter in Land in 2017, 2021, 2022, and 2024, and was named NewQuest’s Top Producer in 2016.
Outside of his work in real estate, Brad’s greatest joys were found in simple, meaningful moments with his loved ones. His happiest moments were spent
surrounded by family, soaking up the Caribbean sun at his favorite vacation spot in the Cayman Islands on Seven Mile Beach. His greatest passion was the pride and joy of fatherhood in raising his young daughter Sophia. He cherished the daily drop-offs to school, the volleyball games, and the many accomplishments on her journey along the way to adulthood, especially her acceptance to his alma mater, SMU, where she is currently a freshman. He found immense happiness in watching Sophia work hard towards her goals and seeing her achieve her dreams.
Brad is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy Ivette LyBrand, whom he married in May 2005; his daughter, Sophia Ivette LyBrand; his parents, Julio LyBrand and Becky LyBrand Taylor; and his siblings, Ross Dickson LyBrand, Grayson LyBrand DiFonzo, and Jenny Bett Newsom.
There was never a more loyal and supportive friend than Brad and no one had a more infectious laugh. He was a great storyteller who always lit up a room with an easy joke or kind-hearted story. He was beloved by all, with an easy-going approach to life and friendship, his sense of humor always carried the room. Brad will always be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and the joy he had in raising a family and spending time with his loved ones. He worked so hard to achieve his goals in business and in life. Brad, you leave a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. You are gone too soon, and you will never be forgotten, we love you.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 19 th at 11 am at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell St. Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, a Go Fund Me account has been created for the benefit of Cindy and Sophia LyBrand.
