With hearts full of love, gratitude, and sorrow, we announce the passing of Richard Lee Echols, who passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at the age of 80.
Richard was born on June 26, 1946, in Dublin, Texas. He dedicated his professional life to engineering, earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Texas Tech University. Throughout his career, he was respected not only for his intelligence and strong work ethic, but also for his kindness, integrity, generosity, and unwavering honesty.
Richard found great joy in the outdoors and working with his hands. He loved hunting, fishing, carpentry, and, in his younger years, working on and racing cars. Some of his greatest happiness came from sharing those passions with his three grandsons, passing along not only practical skills but also a love of adventure, curiosity, and craftsmanship.
Above all, Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara Echols; his daughter, Caren Echols, and her husband, Ross Stephens; his daughter, Karlyn Fuquay; his cherished grandchildren, Braeden Fuquay, Graham Fuquay, and Chance Stephens; and his sister, Katy Lasswell, and her husband, James. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Nelda Ruth Echols.
Richard’s legacy extends far beyond the life he built—it lives on in the values he instilled in those he loved. He taught his daughters how to change their own oil and tires, to keep their word, to work hard, and to always do what is right, even when it isn’t easy. His quiet strength, steady guidance, and example of integrity will continue to shape the lives of his family for generations to come.
Richard will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he gave, the wisdom he shared, and the example he set. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the lives he touched.

I have many fond memories of Uncle Richard, especially from my younger years and the holidays we spent together at Grandma and Grandad’s farm. He was so kind, and I loved his laugh. I will always remember him warmly. Sending love and sympathy to Aunt Barbara, Caren, Karlyn, and all who knew and loved him.
