Alfred "Al" J. Goode

Alfred "Al" J. Goode of San Antonio, TX, passed away on February 26, 2015. He was born in Glasgow, Kentucky on November 1, 1931. Like many young men of his era, he joined the Army in 1952 to serve his country. Over the course of a 27-year career: he put his life on the line in Korea and Vietnam as a medic, tending to wounded soldiers while under fire and was awarded both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his bravery; he moved his young, growing family with him on assignments to bases in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Germany and San Antonio, where the family finally settled. By himself, he served two more tours, in Okinawa and North Carolina, before retiring and rejoining the family. In his retirement, he busied himself by spending time with his family, buying and selling collectibles, reading books, and betting on horses with his friends at Retama Park Race Track. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents: Ersten and Beaulah Goode, his aunt, Ernie Goode, and his brother Albert. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Juanita "Nita" Goode and his five children: Ginger (Bob) Lewis of San Antonio, TX; Kim (Ron) Ryan of Garden Ridge, TX; Bob (Janice) Goode of Helotes, TX; Kevin Goode of San Antonio, TX; and Marla (Dennis) Nougaret of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by: his sister, Barbara (Garl) Forrest of Cleveland, Tennessee; his five grandchildren, Carrie (Robert) Herrera, Jennifer (Robert) Osborne, Jason Goode, Justin Ryan, and Robert "Robbie" Lewis; his three great grandchildren: Brittany Perez, Caitlyn Herrera and Reagan Herrera; and his countless nieces and nephews. Alfred was a good, kind, loving and thoughtful man who cared very much about his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and remembered by those who knew and loved him. A funeral service with military honors will be held for him at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78209 on March 16, 2015 at 10:45 am.
