Allen Joel Seelhammer passed away Wednesday November 20th, 2019 at the age of 80. He was born in Oakes North Dakota on October 11, 1939. He was greeted in heaven by his wife of 56 years Colleen Seelhammer, who died December of 2016, and son Mark Seelhammer who passed in 2004. He is survived by his current wife Anita Hoover whom he married in 2017, Keith Seelhammer wife Leta, Kevin Seelhammer wife Clara, and Michael Seelhammer wife Lisa. He had 12 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Throughout his life A.J. had a vision for making the world a better place and impacting others. That philosophy is very evident by his participation in many organizations, Westside Community Center, Sts. Peter & Paul ACTS, Center for Leadership Science, Math and Technology, Consultant at Texas Science hall of Fame, Order of the Royal Guard, Mission of Divine Mercy, and his long-term commitment to the STAR Learners program. A.J. had many careers during his life, he was an MP in the Unites States Marine Corp., Owner of the Washington Athletic Club, hockey player and coach, and a rancher. His most memorable career was the 31 years he spent with the 3M company. During his career he moved his family 17 times when he fi nally retired as a National Sales Manager with the offi ce products division. In a promotion letter he received in 1975 his supervisor Clyde Slick Jr. wrote this quote from A.J. “Clyde, no one can teach me anything about selling.” And that was the truth! At A.J.’s request no formal funeral services will be held. He did not want people to stand over him and cry, rather his wish was for his family and friends to remember him in their own way.

Guestbook

  1. A. J. was a hero and mentor to me. He always had a new idea and a way to serve in mind. He had vision and creativity in abundance. Even in his retirement home years, he always said, “I didn’t come here to die, I came here to live.” And he would get projects going, especially to add nature and beauty and to honor veterans. 2. AJ was a remarkable person who always saught to make a contribution to individuals, to business, to his community — of which there were many — and to his church. He and I were frineds from the first day we met 33 yearss ago. At every turn AJ was always a supporter of doing good for others. He was one of my very best friends and I was fortunate to see him earlier this month a couple of times and we spoke on the phone the evening before he passed to his next life with Our Lord. RIP my dear friend

  3. He was definitely a force to be reckoned with! We didn’t agree sometimes, but he always had an interesting viewpoint. I loved how dedicated he was to education and family. I have so many great stories!

  4. Dear Seelhammer Family,
Happy occasions come to mind when I think of Al. He was very instrumental in having the Mission of Divine Mercy locate here in New Braunfels–a real blessing! Al created a lot of enthusiasm for the ACTS
program at Sts Peter & Paul.–especially when he was charged with ringing of the wake up bell. Al had a vision for everyone–he appointed me with out my full permission to the Garden Ministry–some 15 years later is appears to have been a good decision. A unique and energetic spiritual guy. Thanks Al.
