Donald Richard Hash was born on February 27, 1929, in Mabelle, Texas, the son of the late William Madison and Ella Mae (Whetsell) Hash. He moved to Stamford as a child with his family where he grew up as the youngest of five siblings. In high school Don worked at City Drug then as a stock boy for Perry Brother's, it was later to become Winn's Variety Store. He joined the Navy serving as a photographer after graduating from Stamford High School in 1947. Don completed his tour of duty in the Pacific and moved to Graham, Texas, to one of the two Winn's Stores where he relieved the manager, Myrtle Hamilton, who was moving to Oklahoma to get married. He soon met her daughter, Juanita "Skeet" Hamilton, who was manager of the other Winn's Store in town. They dated for three weeks and were married on May 6, 1950. They would have been married 65 years this May. From this union, one daughter, Karen Sue, was born. Don continued working for Winn's for 41 years retiring February 28, 1991. His great joy was the planning, creating and growing the franchise, Crafts Etc., for Winn's Stores. Never one to be idle, Don enjoyed volunteering and helping others, from working on the Wurstfest committee to making deliveries to the homebound. Fishing, flying RC airplanes and club camping were his hobbies, but more importantly opportunities to spend time with family and friends. Preceding Donald in death were his parents; three brothers, Limuel, Carl and Travis Hash; a sister, Loyce Rogers; and a granddaughter, Kasey Maria Hickman. Donald is survived by his wife, Skeet Hash; daughter, Karen Sue Hickman and husband Randy of DeSoto; grandchildren William Richard Hickman of San Antonio and Kaitlyn Nicole Hickman of Galveston; sister in law, Ruth Hamilton; and nieces and nephews.
