Dorothy A. Strickland, 74, of Cibolo, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2020 in Cibolo, TX. Dorothy was born in Rosenberg, TX on September 18, 1945 to the late Leon and Victoria Witzkoski Valicek. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William A. Strickland. She is survived by her daughters, Nicole Crawford and husband Eddie of Brownwood, TX, Holly McNeil and husband Steve of Cibolo TX, and Lacey Smith and husband Greg of Schertz, TX; grandchildren, Abby & Brady Ryan, Reagan & Austin McNeil, Parker and Kennedy Smith. It all started when Bill, a DPS officer at the time, pulled her over one evening just before Twilight, as the story was told ... and gave her a ticket for no headlights on... then asked her on a date. They later got married and had three girls. Dorothy was a bookkeeper/Titleist by trade, but chose to stay home and raise her three daughters and dedicated all her time to her family. She was known for being a room mom in grade school and riding her bike with the kids to school. She was also a cheerleading, flags & band mom and was always hosting team lunches before big game days. She was always there to be a part of everything and never missed a game. Her and Bill enjoyed having a house full of kids and although she only had three daughters, there were many, many weekends where she would have an extra two or three calling her “Mom”. She enjoyed spending time out at the ranch deer hunting and camping with Bill, so it was no surprise when the kids were all grown up and kids of their own that their life centered around their grandchildren. They moved across Texas to watch their first granddaughter grow up and be the one to babysit her while the oldest daughter went back to work. Then years later they moved to the Hill Country to be near the other four. Her lap was always open even to her grown kids or her grand-babies. She was known for cooking the best Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners; two of her son-in-law‘s favorites were her squash casserole and her Thanksgiving dressing. She made the best tutti frutti homemade ice cream and was known for it by all the campers at Garner State Park where they vacationed every year since she was a child. She took pride in taking care of her husband William when he was diagnosed with cancer years ago, up until he passed away shortly after her own health started to deteriorate . Then when Bill died, she moved in with her middle daughter Holly and her family. The last few years of her life She enjoyed floating in the Comal River, going to Schlitterbahn, SeaWorld & Fiesta Texas with her daughters & grandkidddos...she was always up for whatever the grandkids wanted to do. What brought her the most joy and fulfillment was her family. Her family will always remember her as a loving, protective, caring mother and know she is now with her husband watching over them as their Guardian Angel!
