Douglas Dudley Dickens, Sr.

Doug D. Dickens, Sr., 91, of Canyon Lake, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 14, 2015. Born on May 5, 1923 in Eden, Texas, he was the son of the late William Roy and Mildred Catherine Dickens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Edith Shields Dickens. Doug is survived by his step-sister, Ruth Cade; son, Doug Dickens, Jr. and his wife Stephanie; daughter, Sharon Dickens Gant and her husband George; grandson Mike Garland and his wife Cathy; and grandchildren, Leigh-Anne, Lauren and Carter Garland. Doug & Edith were married for 69 years. Doug graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio, TX. He worked for San Antonio City Public Service, 1940 to 1943 as Electrician's Helper. Joined the Navy, 1943 to 1945 as an Aviation Electrician's Mate Second Class, civilian employment for the US Post Office while serving in the Air Force Reserve, 1945 to 1951 where he was called into active duty 1951 to 1952 as a Sr. Aircraft Electrician Access Repairman. He returned to civilian employment in 1952 to 1978 when he retired from the US Post Office and became a full time rancher in the Canyon Lake area until his death. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Canyon Lake, March 10, 2015 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Doug's name to one of his favorite charities, Hope Hospice or the First Baptist Church of Canyon Lake, or to your favorite charity.
