James Robert Wheeler

James Robert Wheeler, born Feb 22, 1929, passed away on January 21, 2017 at the age of 87. A longtime resident of the Rio Grande Valley, Spring Branch, Cedar Park, and most recently of Austin, Texas. He was known as Jim, Agent Wheeler, J.R, , Captain Wheeler of his own vessel the Osprey, Lt Wheeler (Marines), friend, and most importantly, Husband, Dad and Grandpa. We remember his life of service as an ATF Federal agent and his love affair with his wife of 68 years Jo (Josephine Brons Wheeler). Our Dad was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who showed many the true meaning of love in his devotion to his wife, our mom. He would give the shirt off his back, was patriotic to a fault, and felt more support should be given to our service men and women, he loved a good joke and wanted to discuss politics with everyone. . He was quick to join in a drink to celebrate and often looked for a reason to share a margarita, and he was grateful for every day he had. A little old fashioned, most will remember him as honest, fair, loyal, and a man of his word. This legacy of character traits we will try to uphold as his children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son, Jon Wheeler, he is survived by his wife, Josephine Brons Wheeler, and 7 children: Mary Jenson, James Duff Wheeler, Chris Wheeler, Stacey Wheeler, Laurie DeLong, Darby Wheeler, and Casey Wheeler. His love of life has been passed on to his 17 grandchildren Meredith, Natalie, Kelly, Andy, Michael, Brittany, Amanda, Blake, Zach, Blake, Christian, Ty, Jonathan, Kyle, Brook, Anthony, Chance, Hannah and 2 great grandchildren Scarlett Jade and Scarlett Merritt. Services will be held at Fort Sam Houston on Feb 10th at 2:00pm. In celebration of his life, a gathering of family, friends, and margaritas will take place at his residence the following day on February 11th. If you are unable to join us, please have a drink in his honor. Thanks to Dan Wilcox for reminding us: 'I don't care how poor a man is; if he has family he is rich. Jim Wheeler was a very rich man." Dad, you were always ready to mark an occasion with a margarita. Here's to you. In lieu of flowers, our Dad requested that donations be made to America's Vet Dogs at vetdogs.org. Funeral arrangements by Lux Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas. Special thank you to Dr. Jennifer Wright of Texas Oncology.
