Jean Dickman

Jean Norton Dickman, age 84, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018.
Jean was born in Rocky Mount, NC on April 16, 1933, the daughter of the late Dr. John William Roy and Jaunita F. Norton. She was predeceased by her husband, Col. Henry J. Dickman III.
Jean moved to several states as a child during WWII for her father’s job as an Army public health officer. She moved to Raleigh, NC during her high school years and graduated from Broughton High School in 1951. She graduated from Duke University in 1955 with a major in sociology, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Henry Dickman, from Florence, SC. During the next 26 years, Jean was a devoted Air Force wife supporting Henry and his career in 13 locations, quickly establishing roots at home and in the community. She embraced the challenge of guiding the family to participate in many enriching activities that have had far-reaching influences on her children’s lives. After Henry died in 1981, Jean received her M.S. in Urban Planning from UTSA and began a new life devoted to learning, adventure and travel. Her many activities and duties, both volunteer and paid, include Toastmaster International, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, San Antonio Symphony Guild, President of the San Antonio Shell Club, president of Friedrich Wilderness Center (San Antonio), certified professional San Antonio tour guide, teacher, and certified tax professional. Her interests included collecting seashells, genealogy, playing bridge and worldwide traveling. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family or at the beach.
Survivors include her children: Carolyn D. Santure (husband Lt. Col. Michael Santure, USAF, Ret.) of Bossier City, LA, Lisa Priesmeyer (husband Dr. H. Richard Priesmeyer) of Bulverde, TX, and H. Joseph Dickman IV (wife Christina) of Trophy Club, TX; grandchildren: Leslie, Jaclyn and David Santure, of Bossier City, Danielle Frisbee and Henry Dickman V, of Trophy Club, TX, Matthew Priesmeyer (wife Jodi) of Boerne, TX, Meredith Khanloo (husband Kayoo of S. Korea); a sister, Jerry N. Aquadro (husband Dr. Charles F. Aquadro) of Savannah, GA; a brother, Rear Admiral Ferg Norton, USN, Ret., (wife Linda) of Wilmington, NC; 14 beloved nieces and nephews, 7 great-nieces and nephews, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, Garden Chapel, 825 E. Basse Rd., San Antonio 78209.

My condolences to the Dickman families. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of dear Jean. Some Bible scriptures that have helped me during times of loss include Isaiah 26:19 and Psalm 37:28,29 which states in part: “Your dead ones will live…They will rise up”. And the Bible also says “The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will forever reside upon it”. Therefore the Bible promises that we may be reunited with our loved ones lost in death by means of an earthly resurrection. This is further confirmed by John 5:28,29 which says “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out”. This is possible thanks to Jesus Christ’s ransom sacrifice. Thus we have a genuine hope of everlasting life in a world without wickedness or suffering. I hope that these scriptures will be of some comfort to you.
