Julia Garcia-Zamora, a resident of New Braunfels, passed away on April 25, 2016 at Eden Hill Nursing Home at the age of 96. Julia was born in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico to Vidal Garcia and Guadalupe Zamora. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Sebastian, and her four brothers: Vidal, Ramon, Alejandro and Guillermo. Julia was an educator, starting her teaching career when she was 15 yrs old. She was assigned as a Principal to a school where some of the students were older than she. She ended her teaching career to marry Sebastian and joined him in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. Julia started a business selling wares on a credit basis from home. She was proud that all of her clients paid their bills. The family returned to Mazatlan where her entrepreneurial skills were very successful. She became a widow at the age of 50. She loved music, travelling, gardening, wrote poetry and was the Oratory champion of Mazatlan and the State of Sinaloa for several years. Later in life she lived with daughter Martha and son-in-law Tom in California and in New Braunfels. She enjoyed visiting the Senior Center where she attended the exercise classes, had lunch and played Loteria with the Hispanic ladies who made her feel very welcome. She is survived by her son Mario Rojas-Garcia of Mazatlan, daughter Martha Lucrecia and son-in-law Captain Thomas M. Stapleton of New Braunfels, TX. Three grand-children: Ivan Rojas, Martha-Helene Stapleton-Dodson (James) and Casey Vidal Stapleton (Kate), eight great-grandchildren: Olaf Rojas; Veronica, Catalina, Penelope, and Emilia Dodson; Olympia, Francisco and Cordelia Stapleton. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, her sister-in-law Enedina and her very special niece Susana. The family would like to thank Eden Hill Facilities for the wonderful care she received, as well as Cima Hospice for the caring services she obtained the last days of her life. A Memorial Service in her honor will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Friday, April 29th at 2:00 pm. Her remains will be taken to Mazatlan, Mexico to be interred in the family tomb.
