Leona Hardy

Leona E. Hardy, a resident of San Antonio, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013 in San Antonio at the age of 90. Leona was born on January 21, 1923 in Rowena, TX to George and Ida Block Englert. She married E.L. Hardy, who preceded her in death in 1959. Leona was a resident of Bellaire, TX, until she retired in New Braunfels. She was an admired woman of God, an active member of Holy Ghost Church in Bellaire, and Sts. Peter and Paul in New Braunfels, as well as Theresians International which conferred the Woman of Vision recognition in 2001. Survivors include her sons, Larry and wife, Vicki; Charlie and Rick Hardy and wife, Darcy; grandchildren, Shane, Travis, Erin, Rikki and Kristi Hardy. In addition, Leona is also survived by two great-grandsons, William and Mikel Hardy. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 followed by the Mass of Resurrection, which will begin at 10:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels. Interment will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Old Waverly Cemetery in Walker County, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Theresians International, 1237 West Monroe, Springfield, Illinois 62704, or go to www.theresians.org.

We will sincerely miss our Aunt Leona. She had six siblings, one of which was Joe Englert, Sr. who was our father. Aunt Leona was always there for our family in time of need. We loved her very much! Jamie, Brandon, DeAnn, and Mike Englert
Leona will be missed by so many of her Theresian sisters. She was such an example to all of us and gave so much of herself to Theresians. My prayers will be for her family who will miss her so much.

Leona was my mother Joyce’s dearest friend at the Village at Incarnate Word and as such I too grew to love her. I admired her for her quite strength and dignity. She was always good about coming to see my mother when she was under the weather. Since mom moved to the Village, she always looked forward to spending time with Leona, be it going to Mass together, sharing a meal or watching a game show together. My fondest memory of dear Miss Leona was her taking a package of crackers or a left over roll back to her apartment so she could feed the birds. She was one Class Act! Dear Family, you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Larry, Charles and Rick I worked with your mom for all of her years at Trunkline/Panhandle. I also grew up on Lehigh Street in the next block from your family. Leona was a dear friend as well as a valued co-worker. She was much loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Pat Burns Merritt

I worked with Leona for several years at Trunkline/Panhandle. She was a special lady whom I admired. My condolences to the family.

Dear Charles, Rick and Larry, I am pleased to have been one of your Mother’s first friends in New Braunfels. I was working in my yard near the river nearly 20 years ago when a well-groomed, smartly-dressed woman came walking towards me and introduced herself. My first words were “How nice you look!” – I still remember this because of course I was covered in dirt, and the average visitor to our city is pretty casual. We discussed the wisdom of her buying her lot, and I told her that I expected property values to rise greatly over the next decade as baby boomers began to retire and that our neighborhood was very pleasant. Rick and Charles, you built her one of the loveliest houses I have ever been in, and I am sorry I cannot be with you today – I am not feeling well.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Your mother was a very sweet and friendly woman. She was my neighbor on Albert Street and we spent many hours visiting and enjoying the river. I moved several years ago and really missed those times with her.
I remember Leona when I delivered mail to her office at Trunkline Gas (Panhandle Eastern). She was a lovely and kind lady. Rest in Pease.
My life was better because Leona was part of it. I love her dearly. My deepest sympathy to her beautiful family.
