Robert Dan Miller, Sr.

robert miller, sr.
Robert Dan Miller Sr. went to be with his Lord on July 5, 2022, at the age of 93. His last days were peaceful and comfortable. He was born to Dan Miller and Edna Britsch in Hondo, TX, on August 30, 1928. He grew up on a farm and did all the chores you would expect with living there … most of them before he went to school each morning. He was pretty much a loner, but one day was thrust into the public eye by rescuing one of his classmates that was drowning at the local swimming hole. Unfortunately, he could not save the boy’s friend, who drowned. That memory would continue to stay with him into adulthood. His family moved to New Braunfels, the German Capitol of Texas, when he was young, where his stepfather worked at the power plant which is now Landa Park. At one time, they lived in the small historic home located at the park’s entrance. Before graduating high school, RD (as he was known) began working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad (Mo-Pac). One year later, he enlisted in the Air Force and served both active and reserves for 15 years. Upon completion of his active service, he went back to Mo-Pac working as a welder and wrecking crew member until 1986. At his retirement, he had the 2nd highest seniority with the AFL-CIO. The railroad became his passion which expressed itself in activities that ranged from collecting dated nails to constructing a miniature train set that ran around the top of the den at their home at Canyon Lake. Anytime he crossed a train track, he could tell you facts about the line that used it until your eyes glazed over! He and Norma Fay (Clifton) met in 1949 and were married 2 years later. They were married for 65 years and were actively involved in Cranes Mill Baptist Church once they permanently moved to Canyon Lake in 1986. RD also loved investing time at Alto Frio Baptist Encampment doing maintenance while Norma Fay worked in the gift shop. He is predeceased by just about everyone he knew, including his wife, Norma Fay, and their daughter, Rita Carol Wyatt. He is survived by family and friends that miss him dearly. Family includes his son, Robert Dan Miller Jr. (Dan) and wife, Joyce; three grandchildren, Jason (Kelsey), Andrew (Ruth) and Seth (Sabrina); and 5 great-grandchildren, Natalie, James, Silas, Luna, and Gideon. Half-brother, Donald Leslie Miller, and half-sister, Mary Ann MacCammon, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. His cremains will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in the columbarium that holds the ashes of his wife. Because of his faith in Jesus Christ alone, his new body resides in heaven. Thanks is expressed on behalf of the family to all who made such significant investments into Robert over the years.
