William H. Burkhardt, III
August 28, 1922 ~ May 30, 2015
On May 30, 2015 William Harold Burkhardt passed from this world. He was born August 28 1922, in San Antonio Texas. William has gone to rest with his wife of 62 years, Ethel Mae Burkhardt and son Steven Burkhardt. He is survived by his sons William (Rosemary) Burkhardt and Robert (Diana) Burkhardt, and six Grandchildren K.C. O'Neal (Sarah), Scott, Randy (Lisa) and Stacy (Jimmy) Forbrich, Melissa and Michelle Burkhardt and his six Great Grandchildren Melissa, Ozel, Zoe, and Lyla O'Neal, and Emma and Sarah Burkhardt.
We would like to express our deepest thanks to the staff at Kirkwood Manor and Compassionate Care Hospice for their care, friendship, prayers and compassion.
He was a loving , Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, he was Blessed with many friends and will be missed by all. He was retired from Lone Star Brewery and a World War II Combat Veteran. Services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Fort Sam National Cemetery. We ask that in lieu of flowers a Donation in be made to your local VFW in memory of his name Staff Sargent William H Burkhardt of 395th Infantry, Company G.

When we lived at Canyon Lake just down the street from Bill and Rosemary, Uncle Bill stopped by one day to visit and bring a gift for our daughter’s upcoming wedding. I remember thinking what a fine person he was, to remember Sonny and Ruth’s granddaughter and want to bless her marriage with a gift. We had a very nice visit together. I also have many fond memories of visiting with Uncle Bill and Aunt Mae at Sonny and Ruth’s house. His legacy of kindness and sincerity will be missed.
Mr. Burkhardt was a special friend that I miss dearly. He was always in the lobby at Kirkwood Manor ready to meet everyone coming and going. Each time I stopped to speak with him I was always treated with a new story about his most interesting life. He lit up each time he talked about his wife, sons and of course cars. We thank him for his service to our country during wartime! On behalf of Kirkwood and its staff it was truly an honor know him.
