Albert "Lonnie" A. McCown, Jr.

Albert “Lonnie" McCown, Jr., age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 15, 2018. He was born in Robstown, Texas on November 20, 1942, the son of Albert and Faye McCown, brother of Jerald McCown. He graduated from Mathis High School in 1960. He then served in the United States Army and was stationed in South Korea and Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Upon receiving an Honorable discharge he returned to Texas and entered into law enforcement with the San Patricio County Sheriff's Department. During this time he met Marilyn Bockholt and they were married on July 22,1967. A natural autodidact, he educated himself and acquired several licences in the realm of estate planning, insurance and financial planning, including the Series 6, sustaining a career that spanned 40+ years, 16 of which as the agency manager of Hidalgo County Farm Bureau. This successful career afforded he and Marilyn to travel the world. He retired (unofficially) in 2010, maintaining several of his financial licences to continue taking care of a handful of clients. In his last years he fostered his passion for wood carving which he quickly developed into becoming an award-winning artist. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his two sons Clint McCown and Steven McCown, and his grandson Jeffrey Laith Sanders-McCown. A memorial service will be held at the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Canyon Lake on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
