marjorie smith
Marjorie Fisher Smith was born December 7, 1923 in Bellville, Texas. She was the daughter of Herbert and Amalia (Roensch) Fisher. On July 28, 2018, Marjorie passed away in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 94. Marjorie attended school in Bellville and graduated from high school in 1941. She also attended Baylor and SMU. Marjorie loved art and after graduating from Feather and Feather Art School in Houston, she moved to Dallas and worked as a commercial artist. She did all of the advertisements for the Dallas Symphony and many ads for magazines and the Dallas newspapers. On October 11, 1947 Marjorie married Al Smith. After marriage she taught commercial art in Dallas before they moved to Brenham and later to Houston. Al and Marjorie loved to travel. They went to Africa twice, Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean. One of their favorite places was Alaska where they loved to fish for salmon. They also enjoyed the White River in Arkansas fishing for rainbow trout. After her children were born, Marjorie stayed at home and enjoyed being active in their lives. She still continued her art work with beautiful paintings of old churches, barns, bluebonnets, and Texas landscapes. After many years in Houston, Al and Marjorie retired to their lake home in Bellville, Texas. Bellville was always dear to Marjorie's heart. Her great grandparents, grandparents, and parents had lived there, and Marjorie's children were born there. After 50 years of marriage, Al passed away and Marjorie moved to New Braunfels to be near her children. She became a member of New Braunfels Presbyterian and was very active in the Eden Hill community. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Al Smith and parents Herbert and Amalia Fisher. She is survived by son Scott and wife Madelyn of San Marcos and daughter Christie and husband Larry of New Braunfels. Marjorie also had five grandchildren: April Gregg and husband Mark of Bulverde; Amanda Fritz and husband Marc of Garner, Iowa; Adam Smith and wife Eri of Tokyo, Japan; Austin Smith of San Marcos; and Morgan Smith of Rapid City, South Dakota. She was also blessed with 4 great grandchildren: Connor and Caroline Gregg and Anna and Erica Fritz. The family would like to thank the staff at Eden nursing home and the wonderful Hope Hospice team. At Marjorie's request there will be no service. A private family memorial will be held at the Bellville cemetery at a later date.

  1. Your mother was fiercely independent and was sharp as a tack! She wanted to help her neighbors and be involved in the Eden community. She was always supportive of the Eden staff. I will remember her sitting on the bench across from her cottage late in the afternoon, always enjoying the sunshine and being outdoors. She will be missed!! Ann Carr
