mildred mcfarren
Mildred Katherine McFarren (Cathie) was born in East Bernard, TX on November 3, 1946 and died peacefully June 7, 2018, surrounded by her husband and daughter in Canyon Lake, TX. Cathie, a devoted wife and mother, received her LVN certificate in 1967 from the San Jacinto School of Nursing. In 1975, she received an Associates of Arts and in 1977, she received her Associates of Applied Science in Nursing, both from Del Mar College. Cathie completed her education with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 1991. She was also member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. Most notable, Cathie was the director of MICU, and in addition to working in the hospital setting, she worked in home health, hospice, and was a breast cancer community educator, retiring after 40 plus years in nursing profession, mostly with Christus Spohn in Corpus Christi, TX. Cathie enjoyed writing, gardening, traveling, family gatherings, and her many pets over the years. She lived as far away as Germany and Japan, but always returned to Texas. She loved to travel, going to the east coast, Canada, Honduras, and Hong Kong; and most recently a road trip to Colorado with her husband. Cathie was very involved in the Canyon Lake area with the Canyon Lake Republican Women, Pilot Club of Canyon Lake, and the Tye Preston Memorial Library. She is survived by her husband, Charles McFarren Jr; daughter, Lisa Holland (Greg); grandchildren, Brittany VanOver (Wayne); Dylan Holland; and Trevor Holland. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family is grateful to the many caretakers of CIMA Hospice for their care and compassion.

  1. Cathie was always a caring RN and BSN. Her patients always had great comments about the care they received. She was a perfectionist who always required the best in the others she worked with. She was a good friend who kept in touch with her circle of friends. She always kept us up to date on her daughter Lisa and her beautiful grandchildren. She suffered through her illness like a strong woman and always had faith in her God. She was always at peace with her faith and offered comfort to all. She was blessed with the best husband in the world and she always thanked God for him. May God bless and give comfort to her family and friends.

  2. Cathie was a wonderful friend. She had a servant’s heart and demonstrated this through participation in organizations that serve the community. I was pleased to serve along side of her on the Pilot Club Board and in many, many of our fundraising activities. She overcame several severe health hurdles in prior years and always came back ready to get to work. Words can’t express her loss. My deepest sympathy to her loving daughter Lisa, and husband Charlie. Diane Schaule
