Andrew Allen McDonald, 46, of New Braunfels, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in New Braunfels. Born on December 30, 1969 in Victoria, Texas, he was the son of Arthur W. and Molly M. McDonald. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bethany J. McDonald, grand- parents, Mimi and Paw-paw, (Mary and Roy Murph), and Tildon and Allean McDonald. In addition to his parents, Andrew is survived by his children, Christopher McDonald, Amanda McDonald and her husband Thomas Kunish, and Nicholas Wells; grandchildren, Sadie, Victoria and Allen Kunish; siblings, Mary Kristine Whitehead and her husband Jefferson, and Luke McDonald and his wife Meaghan; nieces and nephews, Kirsten, Austin, Benjamin and Delaney. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In 1987, Andrew volunteered for the U.S.Army and served as a crewman for the Lance Missile and was stationed in Germany for 18 months. Andrew received an Associate Degree in Electronics from San Antonio College and worked many years in the semi-conductor industry, starting as a field service engineer and last working for Samsung as a senior engineer. Andrew will be remembered for his love of travel and adventure, being the master planner of several wonderful family trips, including ski trips to Colorado, a train trip across Mexico and a scenic coastal California road trip. Andrew had a surprising ability to see unique uses for all manner of ordinary objects. He found joy in using his mechanical and engineering gifts to help others. His love of learning was evident even in his last weeks of life and he was never one to turn down a good debate. When Andrew saw a person in need, he did whatever he could to fix the problem, exhibiting his generous heart. Most important of all, he saw his long battle with cancer as an opportunity to share his faith in Jesus Christ with others. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Gideons; or in memory of his love for travel, put the money aside for a trip with your loved ones. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 4026 Morningside Rd. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Fellowship Bible Church. Interment will follow at Hill Country Memorial Gardens.

  4. Although I was never lucky enough to work directly with Andrew, I spoke to him many times over IM after he had left Samsung, but was still logging in to help out. He gave me wonderful advice and helped me look at issues in my new position with a new eye. He is responsible for some of my successes as a leader. My condolences to his family and friends.

  5. I worked in the same team as Andrew for a couple years at Samsung Austin Semiconductor. He was extremely talented and dedicated, and also very pleasant. I remember one day where we had a potential contamination issue; most people, including myself, worked until 8 or 9 pm but not Andrew….he stayed until after midnight to make sure the incident was contained. The next day I actually got chided by his boss who felt I should have stayed later to help Andrew with what he was doing. To his credit though, Andrew never asked for help, he just did his job….

  6. My condolences to his family, sorry to hear this. Worked with Andrew for few years at SamSung Semiconductor in Diffusion , he was a very nice person and always had answer for any issue at work when he was approached with good attitude.

  7. So sorry for your loss Amanda and family. He is in a better place now. May the Lord help you through this period of time.

  8. Our deepest sympathies for your loss. May the many cherished memories sustain you during this difficult time.

  9. My deepest sympathies to your family and loved ones. I worked for Andrew at Freescale for several years and I will miss him as I know so many others will.

  10. Goodbye, Andrew. You were a treasure and an inspiration. What amazing courage and determination you had to never quit trying! Molly, Arthur and family, we are thinking of you and know that memories will take his place until you see him again… Your strength and dedication through his struggle has been an inspiration and such a labor of love. You are an amazing family. We love you… Susanne, Mary V. and family

  11. The world lost a great man. I worked with Andrew at Motorola Oak Hill and really enjoyed his friendship and company. He is a great friend and I will miss knowing he is still in the world.

  12. I worked with Andrew some years back Motorola/Freescale, it was always a pleasure working with him. He is still thought of othen here, as a parting gift he created a script so we could more easily log directly into a tool. Everytime we run it, it displays “Andrew says hello:”. He was always figuring out how to make our jobs/lives easier. I’m sure he will be missed. My condolences to the family, and his friends you will be in my prayers.

  13. I worked closely with Andrew for many years at Samsung, and I learned a great deal from him. He was determined, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. We definitely would agree to disagree on many occasions, but we worked very well as a team. He would always give 100% no matter how late or how trying it was for him. As his condition grew worse, he still found the time and energy to work and to take care of his family. He is an inspiration for us all, and he will be missed. I am very lucky to have worked with Andrew at the start of my engineering career, and I know that he has made a very positive impact on many of us. I pray that his family find peace with his passing, and to know that he will always be remembered.

  14. My thoughts and prays are with Andrew’s friends and family. We were co-workers at Samsung for a short time. He had a huge influence on me and those around him. He will be missed. God Bless!!

  15. Dear Molly, Arthur and Kristine, My heart goes out to you all as you celebrate the life of Andrew, your son and brother. May God hold you in His loving arms and give you peace, knowing that Andy is with the Lord and no longing suffering with his disease. He was a great guy and I know you will miss him.

  16. We are so sorry for the loss of Andrew. He fought long and hard for so long. We were very grateful to get to know him the past several years and found him to be a good man, but an even better friend/Step Dad to Nicholas. Thank you for welcoming us in your family and “Thank You” for loving Nicholas so much. RIP Andrew and may you live on without all the pain and suffering you endured — until we see you again. All our best, The Wells Family
