Garrett Nicholas Kunkel passed away at the age of 23 years old on October 18th, 2024. He was a beloved son, a caring little brother, and a loyal friend.
Garrett was a beacon of kindness with a gentle soul that touched all who knew him. From a young age, he always had a joke or funny quip that had his family and friends laughing. From his mischievous antics to his innocent pranks, his laughter was the soundtrack of our lives. He was passionate about helping others, Hunting, the outdoors, and making people laugh. He had a true servant’s heart and a willingness to go the extra mile for the people he loved.
He was a fierce protector of his friends and family, he was happiest when he was hunting with his dad or watching movies with his mom. He had a close relationship with his older sister Julia and spoke to everyone with a genuineness that convinced them he had never met a stranger. People and animals alike were drawn to his huge heart and kind soul. Despite life’s challenges, he faced them with courage and resilience, teaching those around him the true meaning of strength and kindness.
Garrett is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Terri Kunkel; older sister, Julia Kay Kunkel, and his beloved dogs, Claire and Dakota, or as he called her, Bruce. A visitation will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024 at LUX Funeral Home in New Braunfels Texas. His life will be celebrated with a private service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville Texas in Garrett’s name, a place close to Garrett’s heart.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kunkel family. He was a wonderful person to those who knew him. He will be missed greatly and acknowledge his passing with a mighty Lions Club “ROAR.”
You were my little boy, my rambunctious teen, and my caring young man. You will be greatly missed and ALWAYS LOVED and REMEMBERED. Thank you for being my son and giving me the opportunity to share my passions with you for the time we had together. LOVE YOU MORE!
I am so very sorry for your loss:(. Many prayers for you all!
We are sending our most sincere condolences.
My son grew up playing video games with him, they became extremely close and they were able to meet up when him and his family came to Florida.
Our hearts will forever be heavy with sadness.
Derek, Jordan, and I are so very sorry for your loss. Garrett was always such a sweet boy. Sending our prayers.
We all send our thoughts and prayers your way. We are greatly saddened by your loss.
My deepest sympathies for your loss.
Played youth football with Garrett. His Dad Jeff was one of our offensive line coaches. Garrett was always one to joke or a quip at the “right” times to make practice more enjoyable. He was usually the center and I was a guard. Garrett was much better than I (so I usually blamed him when we missed a block).
Unfortunately we didn’t stay in regular contact the last few years, wish I had now. Thoughts and Prayers to the Kunkel family.
