It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Cayetano Trevino Morales on April 28, 2025 at the age of 86 years old. He was surrounded by his family. We are at peace knowing that he has returned home to be with his Lord.
Sandy, as everyone knew him by, was born to Lalo Sr. and Refugia Morales on January 29, 1939 in New Braunfels, Texas, where he was a lifelong resident. He was the youngest of thirteen siblings. In 1958 he graduated from New Braunfels High School and was married to Tomasa Hernandez in the same year, on March 24 in Seguin, Texas. Following high school he attended San Antonio Junior College.
In 1957, he began work at the Mission Valley Mills in New Braunfels, working his way up the company ladder, from the weaving room to the administrative offices in 1973, the year after Mission Valley Mills was acquired by Westpoint Pepperell. He proved himself to the new company and was promoted twice, eventually becoming Personnel Director and Employee Relations Director. With the apparel industry on the decline, restructuring at the mill occurred with the loss of many jobs, including Sandy’s in 1986. He began a new career in law enforcement, as a deputy sheriff for Comal County from 1986 through 2001. During his tenure as deputy sheriff, he served some of the time as campus officer at Smithson Valley High School, where he developed a positive rapport with both faculty and students. In 2003 Sandy decided to run for the elected post of Constable for Precinct 3 in Comal County, Texas. He won the election in 2004 and began his term as Constable on January 1, 2005. He held the position for eight years, ending his second term on December 31, 2012.
Serving his country and church was important to Sandy. He served in the Army National Guard from 1955-1985, leaving with an honorable discharge. In the early 1980s Sandy had a calling to serve our Lord and, inspired by his wife, sisters and Father Joe Audet, he attended the Assumption Seminary Diaconate School in San Antonio and graduated as deacon, a position that allowed him to administer various sacraments including marriages, baptisms, and funerals. He served as deacon at our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Holy Family Catholic Church and Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, all in New Braunfels. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club and the Holy Name Society.
During his career of over fifty years he strived to learn new skills, helping him to excel in the jobs that he held. He proved himself to be dedicated and loyal and a person of integrity. Sandy was outgoing and charismatic and he loved supporting the people of New Braunfels. Sandy always had the ability to make someone smile. He will be missed by his family and community but the happy memories will be enduring.
He is survived by his sister Mary Hinojosa, son Larry (Nicholas); daughters Elizabeth Martinez (Rafael Sr.) and Judy Hernandez (Veronica Garcia, Rene Dimas, Ryan Dimas, Giovanni Dimas and eight great-grandchildren); grandchildren Laura (Javier Jr.), Rafael Jr., Tania and Elaina, and great-grandchildren Nehemiah, Dayzee, Jazmyn and Kataleya. He is preceded in death by his wife Tomasa, parents, Lalo Sr. and Refugia, brothers Juan, Felipe, Alfredo Sr., Lalo Jr., Jimmy and sisters Bessie, Forentina, Concepcion, Esther, Rebecca, Lorenza and Martha. He had many nieces and nephews.

Sandy was good friend and a Christian man. He was always welcome in our home. Never heard him say something disparaging about another person. His work with the church and mission work in Mexico was an example of his faith. He was a just and fair lawman, one of the best.
