Albert “Al” Thomas Sherrill
June 12, 1956 – October 9, 2025

Albert “Al” Thomas Sherrill, age 69, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 9, 2025. He was born in Livorno, Italy on June 12, 1956 to Samuel and Anna Sherrill.

Al was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving for 22 years and retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his military career, Al continued serving his country as an information technology professional with the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Though we grieve his passing, we rejoice in knowing Al is now fully healed and embraced by the Savior he trusted so deeply. Heaven has welcomed a faithful servant, and we are forever grateful to have walked this life with him.

Al was known for his quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and deep compassion. He had a servant’s heart and lived out his faith daily—not only in words, but through the countless ways he showed up for others. Whether it was a calm presence in difficult moments, a kind word, or a helping hand, Al embodied the love of Christ in all he did.

He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a true friend to all who knew him. Al had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors. He found joy in hiking, camping, grilling, and sharing cold beers and meaningful conversation with family and friends.

Al was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Sherrill. He is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate, Lynette; his son, Steve Sherrill; grandson, Atticus O’Quinn; and his loyal dog, Nutmeg. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Raymond Schrader; sisters-in-law Jackalyn Schrader and Patricia Roseland (and husband Samuel); nephews Trenton Brown (and wife Angel), Brandon Booth (and wife Clarissa), and Lane Booth; and nieces Taylor Bledsoe (and husband Joseph), and Morgan Langlais.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM at Lux Funeral Home. Interment with military honors by the U.S. Army will take place at 2:30 PM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In honor of Al’s life of faith and service, donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Options for Life or T Bar M Camps.

Al’s legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him.

  23. Lynette…I do not have the words to truly say how sorry I am to learn of Al’s passing. He was such a good friend. He had a way of always saying exactly what I needed to hear, when I needed to hear it…without any context whatsoever…like a quiet, wise preacher.

I have missed him the last year or so and will always miss him.

You and your family are in my prayers always.

    Mike

  24. Lynette – We are deeply sorry for your loss. During this time of profound sorrow, we pray that you and the family find comfort in the many beautiful memories and cherished moments shared with Al. Please know that you are in our hearts and prayers, and we are here for you.

    – Reggie & Sharon

  25. Lynette, I was shocked and saddened to learn from another old VAer that Al had passed. I remember you both, very fondly and your dedication to the VA. It’s sort of funny, you 2 always made me smile. May God bless you both and your family. Jennifer S Duncan, retired 2009.

  26. I’m so sad to hear about Al’s passing. We all admired and respected Al in OPRD, he was an excellent boss to work for and he treated everyone with dignity and respect. I send my deepest condolences to his wife Lynette, his family and all who had the privilege to work with and for him. He will be greatly missed!

  27. So sorry for your loss, I’ve know Mr. Al since I was a teenager and appreciate his 22 year service to our country. Therefore it needs to be noted that he retired with the rank of E-9, Command Sergeant Major, not E-7. Therefore it is a very prestigious rank and represents the highest position that a Non Commisioned Officer can achieve. Thankful for men, like him, who serve their country selflessly.

  28. Lynette, my deepest sympathies to you and your family.
“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”

  29. I am deeply saddened to hear of Al’s loss. He was an inspiration to me in my short time working with his team at the VA and will be forever grateful for his mentorship. Prayers for his family during this time of loss, may God grant them peace in the hope of a reunion with our Savior.

  30. My deepest condolences to Lynette and Al’s family. Al was a dedicated VA colleague and a pleasure to work with. I enjoyed our time together. RIP, my friend.
