Craig Stautzenberger, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Kingsbury, Texas, on January 23, 2026.

Born on December 31, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas, Craig lived a life defined by hard work, deep loyalty, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He was a man who built things with his hands, and built an even stronger legacy through the people he loved.

Craig worked in construction in many capacities throughout his life and never truly stopped working. If he wasn’t on the job, he was always finding ways to stay busy—fixing things around the house, tending to projects, or spending time outdoors. His energy, dedication, and hands-on approach were a defining part of who he was, and there was always another project waiting. He believed deeply in the motto “work hard, play hard,” a value he lived by and instilled in his family.

He shared a remarkable love story with his wife, Cindy, that began when they were just 13 years old. Married for more than 50 years, their lifelong partnership was a testament to commitment, devotion, and enduring love. Together they raised three daughters, Lindsay, Alyssa, and Lauren, whom Craig loved steadfastly and faithfully, guiding them with strength, humor, and a steady hand.

Craig was a proud and joyful grandfather to six grandchildren: Evan, Kinley, Keldyn, Dryden, Faeryn, and Hadley, a beloved brother to Tony Stautzenberger and Jolyn Grothues, and a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and loved by his extended family and friends.

Some of his happiest moments were spent outdoors hunting or fishing. He had a deep love for nature, where he felt most at home. Whether hunting, fishing, or simply walking through the woods, he valued time spent in nature. He seemed to know every tree, plant, and bird by heart, and he enjoyed sharing that knowledge with others.

Known for his stubborn streak and his ruthless loyalty to those he loved, Craig was also a natural storyteller. He loved telling jokes, many of them well-worn favorites, and singing songs at just about any opportunity. He often created silly, goofy tunes for any situation, many of them entirely his own, reflecting his humor, imagination, and love of life. Craig was a great cook, taking pride in preparing meals and sharing them with family and friends. The kitchen was another place where his skill, humor, and heart came through.

Craig also had a gift for connection. He loved talking on the phone late into the evening, often sitting in his truck under the stars with his dog by his side, chatting with anyone willing to listen. Those conversations were filled with humor, warmth, and heart, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who spoke with him.

Craig will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a loyal brother and uncle, a faithful friend, a tireless worker, and a man whose presence filled a room with laughter and stories. His legacy lives on in the hands he taught to work hard, the hearts he taught to love fiercely, the laughter he inspired, and the family and friends who will carry his spirit forward.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 3rd at 2:00 PM at Lux Funeral Home in New Braunfels, TX.

Craig’s family invites all who knew and loved him to join in honoring a life well lived.

  1. Craig was truly a remarkable person. Even though “life” separated us over the years, we would reconnect occasionally as if it were just yesterday. He will be deeply missed.
Our deepest prayers go out to Cindy, the girls, and the rest of the family.
    Our loss is Heaven’s gain.
