Relinda Emilien Hankton Harris was born August 30, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Florence Emilien Young and Raymond Young.
Relinda also known as “Linda” by her family and close friends, was a loving mother to Weldon, Jr., Terrance and Davon Hankton and Grandmother to Terrance Jr., Weldon III., Sarai, Terran, India and Kaiyou. Great-Grandmother to Terrance III, Kyla, Harley, Brax, Brody and Zane. She also left behind 3 Daughters-In-Law. She was a devoted wife to Randy Harris who preceded her in death. She leaves behind 3 sisters and 3 brothers and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relinda grew up and lived in the 7th Ward and was well known by everyone in the neighborhood. She began her career as a streetcar and bus driver before answering a calling to care for others as a Certified Nurse Aide. She devoted 18 years of service to Charity Hospital and an additional five years at St. Charles General.
After relocating to New Braunfels, Texas, she served as a Patient Activity Coordinator at an Alzheimer’s care facility, where her compassion touched many lives. In her spare time, she found joy in writing and proudly became a published author. In her retirement, she traveled with her family on vacations. She loved cooking and feeding everyone she knew, even the people at her favorite gas station, watching old television shows and going to Mardi Gras Parades.
On February 3, 2026, she lost her fight to lung cancer and was taken home to be with her Lord and Savior. She fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith and now she is second lining in heaven with Florence, Ernest, Randy and her grandmother who she adored deeply.
