Joey Don Wilson

Joey Don Wilson, of Bulverde, was born February 22, 1966, in Brady, Texas to parents Eddie and Helen Clevenger Wilson. He received his miracle healing on March 5, 2026, and as he phrased it, “met the Good Lord” at the age of 60. The family, including his younger sister Tresha moved from Melvin to Brady where Joey attended Brady schools from first grade until he graduated from Brady High School in 1984. Joey furthered his education at Texas State Technical Institute and received an associate’s degree in Electronics in December 1985. His passion for technology spanned his entire life which led to him beginning his telecommunications career with Stromberg-Carlson/Siemens where he worked until 1989. His first official day at Guadalupe Valley Telephone Cooperative was April 10, 1989. Including the two to three years he spent installing systems as a contractor, he worked for GVTC nearly 40 years.

He met his wife of nearly 39 years, Shelley Conditt in Bartlesville, OK in May 1986 while installing a telephone system in a small town nearby. They married in Bartlesville on March 21, 1987. On Saturday Shelley lived in Oklahoma, and on Sunday she started her life with Joey in Texas. They lived in an RV for two years while he worked as a contractor installing telephone systems, travelling occasionally to other locations, but always returning to the Bulverde area to complete installations for GVTC. In 1989, they officially settled in the Bulverde area, where their son, Bradley was born and raised and have called it home since. He was active in the community, coaching sports and assisting with anything Brad’s teams might have needed. He was also a Cub Scout leader when Brad was in elementary school. “Mr. Wilson” was a favorite of all the kids he worked with.

Joey’s faith, family and work were his priorities, but he also liked to have fun, with annual family vacations being at the top of his list for rest and relaxation. He loved going to Port Aransas and Rockport and fishing (or attempting to). Joey had a few hobbies that he really enjoyed. Bargain shopping for woodworking tools at estate sales was one of his favorite weekend activities, and when he found a sale with good stuff, he was a man on a mission. He
also loved to use those tools, creating beauty from wood. He loved music of literally all kinds, evolving from heavy metal concerts in his youth to Texas Country concerts with Shelley, and had a talent for finding outlandish songs and videos on YouTube. He was an avid meat smoker and spent many weekends perfecting his craft. He had a knack for communicating with animals and kids and they loved him right back; his playfulness drew them to him. Most recently, his favorite times were spent with Brad, his wife, Caroline and his precious granddaughter, Charlotte (Charlie). Being her Papa was one of the greatest joys of his life. Spending time with extended family and friends was also right at the top of the list. He will be missed by so many, but we take comfort in the fact that Joey is with Jesus and we will see him again someday.

Joey had a great, but ornery, sense of humor and loved to make people smile. Even during his stay in the hospital, he made a lasting impression on all the staff who cared for him. Every nurse who came into his room left with a smile on their face. His purpose in life was to serve others, and he loved to help anyone who needed it. He celebrated his 60 th birthday in the hospital, and when asked what treat he’d like to have, he requested cookies for the staff as his way of saying thank you. He showed the love of Jesus through his attitude and smile even as he faced his greatest challenge.

Joey was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Heath Jordan and father-in-law, Larry Conditt. He is survived by his wife, Shelley, son Bradley, daughter- in- law Caroline and granddaughter, Charlotte, parents Eddie and Helen Wilson, sister Tresha Jordan, mother and father in law Donna and Alan Beckworth, sisters-in-law Heather Conditt, Stephanie Featherston and husband Josh and brother-in-law Steve Conditt and nieces and nephews who will always carry a part of him because of how well he loved them. He drew his strength and joy from Jesus and that carried over into his personal relationships. He made sure that “I love you” was a phrase used often and no one doubted that he meant it.
