Harriet Edith Schmidt Phillips, of Eden Hill Communities, New Braunfels, TX passed away on June 4th , 2026, at the age of 97. Harriet was born on June 29,1928 in Seguin, Texas, the youngest child of Hilton Arthur and Una Govett Schmidt.  Her early years in Seguin were spent primarily residing on the beloved Schmidt family “Poor Farm.” After a secretarial career that included three years with Conoco Oil, Houston, TX, Harriet married Richard “Dick” Forrest Phillips on April 25, 1953.  Dick and Harriet enjoyed 55 years of marriage during which Dick’s career in construction management led them to live in Pennsylvania, Essex, England, suburban Chicago, Houston, London, and Baton Rouge, ultimately retiring in New Braunfels where she served as a volunteer with Hope Hospice.  Harriet’s was a life rich with travel, family, adventure, friendships and many moves.  Harriet often recounted how blessed she had been in her life with Dick.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Dick (2008), all five of her siblings, and by a niece and five nephews.  She is survived by her children, Richard “Skip” Forrest Phillips Jr. (Carol), Nancy Phillips Erickson, and Tracey Phillips Yardley (Robert McKay); eight grandchildren, Forrest Phillips (Lindsey), Katelyn Richards (Nathan), Scott Phillips (Annaliese), Amy Joy Erickson, Reed Erickson (Christina), Colin Phillips (Natalie), Annie Yardley, Turner Yardley (Ashley). Harriet was “GG” to four great grandchildren. She is also survived by fifteen nieces and nephews and countless “greats”. Skip, Nancy and Tracey are especially grateful to Carl Flahaven and Linda Kostantenaco (Steve) who lovingly attended to their Aunt Harriet in her final years.

A private family graveside service will be held at San Geronimo Cemetery at a later date.  The burial will be conducted by Dick’s nephew, the Reverend P. Keith Hill (Sarah) and will be followed by a family gathering.

  1. Harriet became one of the dearest friends I’ve been blessed to have in my life. Her contagious laugh drew me to want to meet this feisty little lady and we became fast friends while we volunteered at Hope Hospice and beyond. Harriet never lost her sweet social skills and would always ask many questions about how I was doing and what I was up to. I adored this lady from the day I met her! I pray the family finds comfort in remembering Harriet and her independent, loving personality. I know there will be many laughs mixed in with the tears of grieving. Much love to you all.
