Edward “Ed” L. Lette, 82, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away at home on June 12, 2026.
Ed was born in Meridian, Mississippi, and raised in Brownsville, Texas, where he graduated from Brownsville High School in 1962. While working in a bank computer room and attending university classes Ed earned a Business degree in Accounting from the University of Texas Pan American in 1971and obtained his CPA license in September 1983. Using knowledge and experience Ed built a successful and well-respected career in the banking world.
Ed held vice-president and president roles at several Brownsville banks, founded First National Bank of South Padre Island, and later oversaw multiple branches of Security National Bank in San Antonio. Ed’s last banking position was as president and Chairman of the Board at Business Bank of Texas in Austin. Once retired, Ed remained engaged in business by starting a CPA consulting firm, specializing in tax planning, preparation, and resolution.
Ever passionate about accounting and banking, Ed took immense pleasure in sharing his knowledge with others. Over the years, he presented at gatherings of his professional colleagues and was genuinely pleased to connect with peers and contribute to their growth.
Ed was an active member of the South/Central Texas Financial Community and Lone Star Chapter of the American Institute of Banking serving as a Director for AIB from 1994-1998. Ed served as president of the Texas Society of CPAs San Antonio Chapter in 2005 and received recognition by The Independent Bankers’ Bank (TIB) for achieving the rare milestone of 50 years of service to the banking industry and community.
Outside the office, Ed lived with the same energy and enthusiasm he brought to everything else. He sailed, mountain biked, kayaked, hiked, and whitewater rafted — always excited to embark on a new adventure. He never met a stranger, had a natural gift for making people laugh, and left an impression on everyone he encountered. His warmth, humor, and love for his family, friends, and pets were as much a part of him as anything else.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Clark Lette; his children, James E. Lette, Ann Lette, and David Lette and his former wife, Mildred W. Sandvig, mother of his children; his stepchildren, Dwayne Clark and Kelly Clark Black; and his grandchildren, Trevor Lette, Aidan Lette, Dawson Lette, Edward Gerusa Lette, Emily Black, Caleb Black, and Harper Clark.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Maude Terral and Elmer C. Lette, and his brother, James Terral Lette.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Our lives will not be the same without Ed. We will miss his warm hugs, his smile, his fun-loving spirit, and his boundless passion for life. Through his example and encouragement, Ed challenged all of us to become the people we are today.
In celebration of Ed’s life, a memorial is being planned.
