Carol Marie Tully
Carol Marie Tully passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025 in New Braunfels, Texas, at the age of 87. She was an independent woman, a dedicated teacher and librarian, a cornerstone of her extended family, and a beloved friend to many.
Carol devoted over 25 years of her life to teaching and serving as a librarian in overseas military schools. Her work took her to Germany, Iceland, Bermuda, the Azores, Belgium, and Okinawa. She had a deep love for exploring new places and traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia, forming lasting friendships that endured throughout her life.
In 1995, after retiring, Carol settled in New Braunfels, where she built her home and embraced a quieter life. She gave back to the community through years of volunteer work at the McKenna Hospital gift shop and by delivering Meals on Wheels. She was also a devoted member of First United Methodist Church. Carol was a talented seamstress who found joy in crafting baby blankets and dresses for her nieces, nephews, and their children.
Born in Aitkin, Minnesota, Carol was the youngest of four children of Gordon and Almira Tully. With her father serving as an Army officer, the family lived in several places, including South Carolina, San Antonio, California, Missouri, and El Paso. Carol graduated from high school in Alameda, California, earned a B.A. from Our Lady of the Lake University, and later completed an M.A. at the University of Maryland.
She is survived by her niece Sally Allin and nephew Andrew Elliott, both of Austin; nephew Peter Elliott of Lakeland, FL; niece Susan Ellis Skvorc of Wasilla, AK; nephew Bradley Ellis of Cross Plains, TX; nephew Michael Hootman of San Bernardino, CA; niece Sandra Wittner of Scio, OR; brother-in-law Roger Elliott of New Braunfels; numerous other relatives and friends; and her longtime neighbor and close friend, Betty Lohse of New Braunfels.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Lorraine Elliott and Jean Von Dohrmann; her brother James Tully; and nephews Robert Tully and Jeffrey Ellis.
Her ashes will be interred at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at E’lan Westpointe Memory Care, where Carol spent the last 29 months of her life, and to the nurses and staff at Hope Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s honor may be made to Hope Hospice or First United Methodist Church of New Braunfels.
