She graduated from North Vernon High School in 1953 where she was the Drum Major of their Marching Band. She, also, played the oboe. She attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana where she met and later married David William Allmann in North Vernon, Indiana on February 11, 1956. They were married almost 50 years. In 1964, they moved to Wisconsin for 6 years and in 1970 moved back to Indianapolis, IN for 35 years.
After David died in 2005, Mary Ann moved to New Braunfels, TX away from the cold and wintery Indiana weather to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She loved Texas.
Mary Ann and David loved traveling all over the world for pleasure, especially Germany, to visit David’s ancestors. They made many trips to China to interview and recruit students to the United States biochemistry graduate program.
Mary Ann was an accomplished knitter, embroiderer, seamstress, tole and canvas painter. She collected figurines, jewelry, and paintings of rabbits as well as a large collection of stuffed rabbits. Mary Ann enjoyed sharing her rabbits with others who visited her home.
Mary Ann’s faith was a central part of her life. Through the years, she enjoyed singing in her church choirs. She was a faithful and loyal member of Hope Presbyterian Church, New Braunfels, TX.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Allmann) Haeck of New Braunfels, TX and Judy (Allmann) Byrd of Taylors, South Carolina; grandchildren, Kelsey (Byrd) Sims and her husband Wes Sims, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, and Kyle Byrd of Charlotte, North Carolina; step-great grandchildren,
