Steven Grigsby, age 35, passed away on October 2, 2025 at St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in San Antonio after a courageous 9-month battle with cancer. He was born on February 17, 1990, the son of Kenneth and Nina Grigsby.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Grigsby and is survived by his mother, Nina Heft Grigsby of Canyon Lake, brother Robert Grigsby and partner Ediovany Salazar of Bettendorf, Iowa, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and moved with his family at age 7 to Canyon Lake, Texas where he spent most of his life. He graduated from New Braunfels High School in 2008 and went on to graduate from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas in 2014 with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. While in college he worked as a chemistry research assistant and tutor, was president of the math club, and competed on the UNT Sailing team.
Over the years he worked as a waiter, calculus and physics tutor, and a sailing base director/instructor at a Boy Scouts high adventure camp. He later became a self-taught and certified network security engineer and was employed in that position both in Brooklyn, NY and Texas at Rackspace Technology.
Steven was passionate about math, an avid reader, and constant learner. He loved being active in the outdoors-biking, swimming, and sailing. He learned these skills and a love of sailing from many hours spent with his dad sailing on Canyon Lake. Steven also enjoyed a winter backpacking trip through Eastern Europe and other trips with friends. He was a bright, kind, and fun-loving soul who will be forever missed by his friends and family.
A memorial service for Steven is being planned for Spring 2026. Memorial donations in his name can be made to the New Braunfels Conservation Society, for preservation of the Lindheimer Haus, the home of Ferdinand Lindheimer, Father of Texas Botany.
