Tommie Ernestine “Granny” Stowe Guinn, 103, passed away on January 10, 2026 in New Braunfels, Texas.  She was born in Conroe, Texas, on September 28, 1922, to George and Clara Stowe.

Ernestine and her husband Orville moved to New Braunfels in the early 50’s and resided on Kentucky Blvd. Orville owned a print shop, Guinn Printing, and Ernestine kept the books. Granny was an avid sports enthusiast. When asked what her favorite sport was, she would say, “Football, basketball, baseball. I like them all.” She kept an immaculate home and loved collecting American Indian artifacts, making custom curtains, crochet and flower arranging. Granny was a baker and an excellent cook. She would bake pies and deliver them to friends at work, or school. She was equally passionate about fashion. She loved looking at dresses. She would tell stories of tearing out all the fashion pages in the Sears and Roebuck Catalog before the pages were used in her family’s out house, which happened to be a double seater! Granny was selfless when it came to her husband, raising her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When Ernestine had her first Grandchild, Tami, she adopted the nickname, “Granny.” From then on, it would be the only name people would call her. She has a spirit and energy that never slowed down as she aged. Ernestine loved her church family. She was a member of First Baptist Church and then joined Eastside Baptist in the early days until present. She was active in the community and was a very proud Eastern Star. Her daughter, Linda, was as well. As Granny aged in excellent health, despite a love for chocolate, she had wishes to donate her body to science. When frequently asked what her secret to longevity was, Granny would say, “I have never drank, I have never smoked and I have never committed adultery.” This always got a good chuckle out of anyone listening!

Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Lee Guinn Sr.; parents, George and Clara Stowe; grandparents, Thomas and Ruthie Ann Pickering; and sisters, Pearlee and Emma Idell. She is survived by, her children, Linda Rust and Orville Guinn Jr.; Grandchildren, Tami Persyn (Tom), Todd Rust, Lacey Aleman, Amy Madden (Mark), and Casey Guinn; Great-Grandchildren, Joshua Smith (Taylor), Jeremiah Smith, Jimmy Flores Jr., Andrew Aleman, Connor Madden, Davey Madden, David Bruce Wight, and Emmett Guinn; and Great-Great-Grandchildren, Jaxon, Jade, Charolette, Carsen, Cayden, and Evelyn. Granny’s heart was big. Her devotion to family included extended family and friends of the family; all were treated the same.

Heaven has gained a new angel and Granny’s kind generous heart will be with us forever.

Funeral Services will be held at Eastside Baptist Church on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 10:00 AM with a procession to follow to Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My brother, Charles Rowlen, was a good friend of the Guinns in the early 1960s when the worked for Airmaid Hosiery. He used to mention the family members in conversations with me. I seem to remember car pooling to SWTSC in San Marcos with Linda. My condolences to all the family.

  2. There could only be one Granny Guinn. What a wonderful person she was. She always thought of others, put them first, always made us comfortable in her home. And, who could ever forget her tasty pecan pies! Orville and I lived with her and Mr. Guinn when Tami was born. Mr. Guinn always called her “Paw-paw’s little Bee-Bee” and put her around his neck–she was holding on to his hair, and he had his hands securely placed on her so she wouldn’t fall. What wonderful memories I have of all that. Granny also made sure I had the latest fashion and accessories. I never had so many beautiful shoes and clothes. She designed and had them made for me. In later years, I didn’t get to see her and I wish I would have made more of an effort to do so. She will always be in my heart–with love, Lana

  3. This lady was truly a bright light in my life. I walked to the print shop many days after school. I loved her and Orville so much. If I needed someone to come get me from school, I would call her. She was like a mom to me when I was a kid. A great cook for sure. Rest in peace sweet Earnestine. I will see you again one day.

  4. Granny Guinn was love and light to all that knew her. She lit up the room when she walked in, always so elegantly dressed with hair and make up perfect. She was always smiling and so sweet and kind. I will always remember that sweet smile and the love she brought to everyone lucky enough to know her! RIP Granny Guinn:)
