Betty Ann (Scholl) McLean, 81, of New Braunfels passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at her daughter's home in Hudson Oaks, Texas. Born on October 21, 1939, in New Braunfels, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Walter A. "Doc" Scholl and the late Valeska Olga (Sahm) Scholl. Betty was baptized at the First Protestant Evangelical and Reformed Church in New Braunfels, Texas, and was confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was married in 1957 and raised two children as a full-time mother before embarking on a career in bookkeeping. Betty retired from the Texas State House of Representatives Accounting Office in 2006 and was honored for completing over 20 years of service. As a life-long Texan, Betty enjoyed living in nine different cities across the state and returned to New Braunfels shortly after retiring. She was recognized in 2020 by the Chamber of Commerce's 175th Anniversary Committee as a member of the Honor Roll for the 175th Celebration. Betty is survived by her children Laura Rene Smith and son-in-law Mark Smith, and Warren Scott McLean and daughter-in-law Nancy McLean, plus six grandchildren: Scott McLean and his wife Heather, Ian McLean, Tessa Allen and her husband Nick, Tucker McLean, Ellie Hanson, and Elyse Hanson. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her former husband Eugene Francis McLean and siblings Waldorf A. Scholl, Robert Ernst Lee Scholl, Randolph Ray Scholl, Atwell Walter Scholl, Iris Emilie Schlather, Clinton Bruno Hilmar Scholl, Franklin Roosevelt Scholl, Avis Valeska Banks, Shirley Claire Scholl, and Naoma Nell Scholl. Betty is survived by brothers Madison Garfield Scholl and his wife Janet, and Merton Allen Scholl and his wife Linda. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Comal Cemetery.
