Carmen Espinoza
September 14, 1933 ~ April 5, 2023
Carmen Espinoza passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the age of 89. Carmen was born on September 14, 1933 in New Braunfels, Texas.
Carmen is preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Maria Dolores Espinoza; and siblings Francisco Espinoza, Prudencia Espinoza Herrera, Juanita Espinoza Mendoza, Herminia (Minnie) Espinoza Mejia and Victor Espinoza. Carmen is survived by her brother Julio Espinoza and his wife Poksun (Connie) of New Braunfels, and many nieces and nephews.
Carmen enjoyed working in the yard, going to church, sight-seeing and especially dancing. Everyone loved her tamales and she enjoyed sharing them. Carmen liked to socialize and worked at many events including Wurstfest and the Comal County Fair. She worked for New Braunfels High School from 1984-2003, and after retiring she enjoyed watching tv, sitting on her porch, watching the Cowboys and Spurs, reading the Herald and spending time with friends and family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 13, 2023 with a Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM at Lux Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in New Braunfels, TX with burial to follow at Sts. Peter and Paul I.

My favorite memory of Carmen was when I was invited to her home by her niece Sylvia to prepare tamales for the first time in my life with her, and her sisters Minnie and Juanita. I had a lot of fun. My second favorite memory was during the summer of 2014 being able to help her with her eye drops after she had cataract surgery. We spent a lot of time in her kitchen talking, maintaining her yard, and watching her favorite telenovelas. I will miss her.

In high school she was very good to my friends and I. She treated us all like her boys when we were around. We loved and respected her.

My dear aunt Carmen who was a strong headed lady always independent and strong willed. After fracturing her knee, Carmen first began her therapy at Legend Oaks and she was a bit timid due change but before long she began to love doing therapy and living short term turned to long term. I remember her calling us on a daily basis and telling us how busy she was and about her daily schedule . Carmen loved making new friends and playing bingo, crafts and going to church. When Julie and I would ask her to come stay with us she would say I don’t wanna go I have my friends and activities here. We will miss her dearly with all our love may she rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to the family. I wish I could be there to offer my condolences for your loss in person. Therefore, I am sharing a memory of Carmen and I. I will always be thankful for her for giving me good advice and watching over me while I worked with her at the county fair. She is the one who made it possible for me to get the job at the fair to help my mom with bills. She was never negative, and always had a great attitude and a beautiful smile. She will be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to meet her. RIP Carmen. 🙏❤️

Carmen was a wonderful part of our family’s life as she came to work in our home when we were children and remained friends with us and our parents for many years.
From cleaning to ironing to babysitting and more, she always had a smile and a joke to share. She tried to teach us how to make tamales but we could never make them as well as she could. I still use the enchilada recipe she shared with me.
We will always have sweet memories of our dear Carmen.

I was a teacher at NBHS and Carmen & I knew each other very well. She was a loyal Unicorn & she was a good friend. Blessings to her son & the family.
