David Sexton

david sexton
David Curtis Sexton, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 70. Dave was born on April 20, 1952 in Mineola, New York to Gene and Joan Sexton. Because Dave's dad was in the Air Force, his family lived in various places—including Hawaii—before settling in Colorado Springs. The family eventually grew to include a total of eight boys and one girl, which created a bustling household and numerous opportunities for troublemaking. As the oldest, one of Dave’s duties was to initiate his siblings in the art of filching cookies and other goodies from their mom’s kitchen. He attended high school in Colorado Springs, where he met Janice Crotty before graduating in 1970. Dave and Janice married in 1971 and had a son and daughter, Paul and Julie. Dave enlisted in the Air Force in 1972 and worked for 11 years as an aircraft maintenance specialist. He lived in several states during his military career including Texas, Alaska, Idaho, and New Mexico. While stationed in Tucson, Arizona, he discovered a love for the desert, and he would live in Tucson for decades. Dave left the Air Force in 1983 and tried out a number of jobs including furniture construction, warehouse work, car maintenance, bird and pest control, and aircraft preservation. Memorable work stories recounted his battle with pigeon roosts on office buildings and other structures, which brought him all over the country, bird-busting electric-wire systems in hand. He returned to working on military planes for the final 13 years of his career, serving as an aircraft maintenance technician contractor for the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group in Tucson. Dave retired in 2019 and enjoyed spending time on his one-acre plot in the Arizona desert, soaking up the sun, listening to music, and watching the wildlife. In the final year of his life, he lived near his son Paul in San Antonio. Dave will be well-remembered as a great storyteller and jokester, and for his uniquely colorful turns of phrase. He loved tubing the Salt River, hiking and trail running, sunbathing (often au naturel), and hanging out with his children, Paul and Julie. He collected souvenirs from his many travels and experiences—the Sturgis Rally was one of his favorites. He loved aircraft, cars, classic rock and roll, a good barbeque, action movies, cold beer, and chocolate chip cookies. Dave is survived by his children, Paul Sexton and Julie Sexton and her husband Jarett Zuboy; his siblings, Rick, Tom, Ken, Robert, Steve, Bill, and James; his former wife, Janice; and many nieces and nephews. Dave is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharon. Services will be at Lux Funeral Home Chapel at 11:30 AM on Friday, May 20, 2022 with a procession to follow to Fort Sam Houston Cemetery for burial services with full military honors starting at 1:45 PM.
