Dennis (Denny) Eugene Woods passed away on May 29, 2019 at his home in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born on October 5, 1943 to Hallie and William Woods in Fort Worth, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vickie, his son Scott (Lisa), his daughter Wendy (Michael), his brothers Donald (Charlotte), Joe, and James, his sister Susie, niece Jamie (Randy), and nephew Kyle. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren: Cody (Christina), Ryan (Jessica), Austin, Ethan, Brianna, and Jenna, 3 great grandchildren: Judah, Jonas, and Graham, 2 great nieces: Brynn and Caitlyn as well as countless friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Dan, Charles, and John, sister-in-law Cathy, brother-in- law Guy, and nephew Jeff. Family was the most important thing to Denny. He was the best son, brother, husband, brother-in-law, father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather anyone could ask for. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s basketball games, track meets, wrestling matches, and volleyball games. He loved the annual family trip to the Outer Banks were he would terrorize anyone who got close to the pool with a high powered squirt gun, throwing the football, and sitting on the beach watching the waves with his brother, James and his friend, Bob. Vickie was truly the love of his life. Denny and Vickie provided a great example of a loving marriage. Denny worked for Costco for 31 years. He touched many lives and mentored many people over his long career. The family would like to thank Dr. Atlas, Nate, and Patrice for helping care for Denny. We could not have gotten through the past few months without your help. The family also wants to thank all the family, friends, former co-workers and “Denny’s Fan Club” from Costco who came from Virginia to visit him in Texas. Denny’s ashes will be scattered during a private family service at the place that brought him so much happiness and joy, the shores of the Outer Banks of North Carolina on June 10, 2019. A celebration of his life will take place on June 13th at 3 p.m. at 353 Lindsey Lane, Corolla, N.C. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting making a donation to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Network. https://cancer.org/sarahcannonfund

  6. Mike Brosius
Denny was the type of person that could treat you like a father, friend, a peer all at the same time and even during the same conversation. He was always smiling and was willing to share what he had learned, ideas and advise (sometimes even when you didn’t want it) He taught me a lot and will be missed. I am glad that Scott and family got to spend the last few years with him. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

  7. To me Denny was a great mentor, who I always looked up to. He helped me countless times in my career. I was lucky that he was always offering to help me every time we talked.
He was special in so many ways but what always amazed me was that he could help you solve any kind of challenge, including Merchandising, Operations, Budgets, Facilities, IS or anything.
Another amazing thing was that he knew EVERYONE. He used to tell me Call So and so and tell them I said to take care of you, And everyone of them did.
Denny we all miss you, may you rest in peace. Pat F.

  8. When I met Denny, he was the regional Foods Manager for FedMart in 1971 and I was an assistant manager at the FedMart in Rialto California. Later we worked together in San Antonio with a company that was trying to emulate Price Club in Texas. Then later we worked together in the PriceClub East Coast offices. The contact goes back 48 years. During that time, we became friends and were able to spent time together and in conversations that were based on such similar backgrounds. Denny was a good friend but also a “go to” guy who seemed to know everyone and could always direct you to the right person to talk to about your problem. He had an ardent appreciation of the Costco culture and represented it in the way he did his job and the direction he gave to others. He was a good mentor to so many and affected so many lives.
Denny faced many challenges in his life and his resilient nature carried him through them. His positive attitude was always evident. The support from his family was essential and he couldn’t have asked for better. Vickie, Scott and Wendy, as well as his other relatives provided the best support anyone could hope to have.
His impact at Costco is lasting and at Costco we were lucky to have him. He always seemed to have time for you even if he had to get back to you later. The similarities of our career paths made for very good interesting conversations which I looked forward to.
Denny was a good friend and coworker. I am so saddened to see him go and will miss him dearly. I know he was so looking forward to going to the Outer bank to spend time with “the clan”. He loved time spent with his family. It is so appropriate that the services be held there. It was a place he talked about a lot and had many good stories of. I feel privileged to have known him and his family and will cherish that always. We are all better for knowing him. John Martin

  9. I met Denny when I was the Lawn and Garden Buyer for Costco in the late 80’s . He would tease me whenever something shipped into the NE or SE region which didn’t make sense, like umbrellas for lawn furniture tables in Florida where everyone has a covered / screened in porch. Or beach chairs with black painted frames…..
In Merchandise & Environmental Services I worked with him on budgeting regulatory charges for his warehouses.
He was my go to person and I have missed him for a while now. He played a big part in his Costco family mentoring and helping anyone who reached out to him.
    Love you Denny -B-

  10. I knew Denny for 29 years, and felt i got to know him well in the last several years as he was a frequent weekend visitor in the warehouse. He always made time to chat and would provide valuable advice and encouragement. His vast experience allowed him to give insight to seemingly solve any problem. I will always remember Denny as a friend and the first person i would think of to contact when I needed help. And while he certainly knew the right people to contact in any situation, what impressed me the most was that he would always follow up on his advice to ensure everything turned out ok. Denny was a rare person whose influence will remain with me for a long long time. Its the little things you remember, and I will never forget that each and every time Denny came into the building on the weekend, he never ever left without buying flowers for Vickie. R.I.P. my friend

  11. We will miss you Denny. You were a part of our family. We have so many years of wonderful memories. You were always there for everyone. You’re smile would light up the room. Thanks for guiding mom & Vicky to countless dog shows. They would still be lost without your help. We will meet again in Gods Kingdom. Please don’t cause to much havoc up there. We love you . Dottie, Monica, Sterling, Bill & Scarlett
