Donald Nelson Cameron

donald cameron
Donald Nelson Cameron, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed peacefully to be with his heavenly father, Thursday, June 1, 2017. Donald was born December 29, 1931 in Sault St. Marie Michigan, one of five children to John and Grace Cameron. Although he was "on his own" from the age of 15, he was always motivated and ambitious to accomplish much in his future. He received his undergraduate and Master's Degree as a Mechanical Engineer from Michigan State University and later went on to teach there as well. He was founder and owner of Cameron Tool in Michigan, Cameron Tool and Die in Denver Colorado and Star Manufacturing here in New Braunfels. He held a patent for large machine equipment design for producing medical and pharmaceutical grade needles. He sold, built and set up this equipment internationally and taught them how to manufacture and produce needles in their country. As the founder of the Tool and Die Apprenticeship Program here, he wrote, established and taught the curriculum. He helped numerous young people by providing access to this program and to the companies for whom they worked. He received his pilot's license at a young age and not long after, purchased his plane. Quickly, flying became one of his favorite pastimes. Donald taught Small Group Bible Studies at his church for over 40 years. After retirement, he continued to teach Bible studies as well as serve as an Ombudsmen for several long term care facilities in this area. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Olive, brother, Warren, and daughter, Rene Hess. He is survived by his wife, Alane; sons, Scott Cameron, and Drew Cameron and their spouses, Elizabeth Cameron and Samantha Cameron; and daughter Sue Cameron. He is also survived by grandchildren, Logan, Coby, Grayson, Beau, Matthew, Kade, Ty, and Sam, and Sarah of Kalamazoo, Michigan as well as a sister, Dee Tyrpak and brother, Gary Cameron. A memorial service will be held at Oakwood Church on Monday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the nurses at Kirkwood Manor and all the staff of Hope Hospice.
