Donna Kay (Emison) Smith, 69, of New Braunfels, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 8, 2021. She passed away after a very short illness while surrounded by her loved ones. Born on December 17, 1951 in Socorro, New Mexico, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Ernest Emison and Reva Irvine Emison. Kay graduated from the Lovington, New Mexico High School in 1969 and married Norman Louis Smith later that year. Norman and Kay would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in November of this year. Kay accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and gave her life to serving Him. As a young child, Kay began singing solos in church and continued singing for the rest of her life. In her teenage years, she began teaching children at church. For over 50 years she served alongside Norm in various ministries in churches in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. For the past 20 years she served at Calvary Baptist Church and Academy in New Braunfels, Texas. Kay had a passion for people. Her kind and gentle spirit, her non-judgmental demeanor, her smile and open arms would brighten up any gathering. Kay also had a passion for her grandchildren. She doted on her grandchildren and great grandsons. She shared their triumphs every chance she had, whether you wanted to hear about them or not. Her hobbies included reading, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. Kay Smith’s life touched and intersected with thousands of others. Kay’s genuine smile, her warm words of welcome and encouragement, and her very welcoming and comforting hug was a constant encouragement to many. Her testimony for the Lord and loving counsel changed countless lives for the better. These acts of kindness, both small and great, are now crowns Kay is laying at the feet of her Savior. Kay is survived by her three children: Becky (Robert) Lanning, Darrin (Robin) Smith, and Randy (Tonya) Smith. She is remembered with love by Denise Smith. “Grandma Kay” is also survived by her 16 grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Kay is also survived by two brothers, Ross and Doug. She is loved by her nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Kay is preceded in death by her Husband, Father, Mother and 2 brothers (Henry and Steve). 1. Grandma Kay was an amazing inspiration to many of us. Personally, I want to thank her from the bottom of my heart for the great friday night memories of going bowling with her. Whether it was that or being at her home behind Calvary Baptist Church, it was pure joy just bring around her. She always gave me the sweetest hugs and always was so genuine. I remember also she would always call me “Matt-chew” and that always put a smile on my face even if I had a rough day. Grandma Kay you are forever loved and cherished by many. We rejoice that now you are reunited with your Husband Norm (Heman). Show Jesus the Ol’ College Whip!! I Love You!
