Dorothy Louise (Baxa) Anthony, age 90, of Canyon Lake, Texas, passed very peacefully away at home on February 21, 2023, with her son, Russ holding her hand. Born February 10, 1933 in Grafton, West Virginia to Willard O. & Olive S. Baxa, Dorothy attended Buchanan High School and graduated in 1949. Beloved Wife to Maurice “Gene” Anthony of 71 years, Dorothy and Gene married in 1949 and went on to have five children, 13 grandchildren, and 20 great and great-great-grandchildren. A loving and (very) busy stay-at-home mother, Dorothy was fully established as the matriarch of the Anthony family. She was also a second “mother” to many others in the family and friends. Upon the retirement of her husband from the FBI after 30 years of service and 8 moves across the country, the family settled in San Antonio, Texas where Dorothy – a fierce advocate for animals in need – began donating her time supporting the Animal Defense League of San Antonio and a small, humane group of people, called, Man and Beast. After relocating to the Canyon Lake area in 1986, Dorothy and Gene joined the Canyon Lake United Methodist Church, became charter members of the Canyon Lake Country Club, served as members of the Chamber of Commerce, and Dorothy volunteered at the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter and Community Resource and Recreation Center for more than 20 years. She loved animals, thrifting, and serving others. Dorothy was involved in many, many other social and philanthropic organizations around Canyon Lake. She was the backbone and heart of the Anthony family and her home was always the gathering place that brought everyone together. She is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Gene Anthony (2020); her son, David Anthony (2022), and grandson, Jason Albertelli (2020). Dorothy is survived by four children, Michael K. Anthony, Sr. (Kay Cole) of San Antonio, TX; Crystal Gottfried (Eddy Gottfried) of Canyon Lake; TX, Richard Anthony (Cindy Anthony) of San Antonio, TX; and Russell Anthony, Sr. of San Antonio, TX. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Lux Funeral Home, 1254 N. Business Ih 35, New Braunfels, TX 78130, from 5:00pm - 8:00pm. Funeral Services will be Monday, March 6, 2023, at the Canyon Lake United Methodist Church, 206 Flintstone Dr, Canyon Lake, Texas at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Cranes Mill Cemetery in Canyon Lake, Texas. If you choose, donations may be made in Dorothy Anthony’s name to the following organizations; The Foundation for the Society of Former FBI Agents, https://socxfbi.org/SFSA/SFSA/FoundationPages/ ; Canyon Lake United Methodist Church, canyonlakeumc.org.
