Emma Garza Brann

Emma Garza Brann of Spring Branch, Texas passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 surrounded by her family. Born in Raymondville, Texas, she grew up in Edinburg, Texas, and graduated from NTSU with a degree in education at the age of 19. She married her husband James Brann in 1957, and they raised four children. She worked in Northside ISD in San Antonio for most of her career.
She is survived by her husband, James Marion Brann; a son, James Marion Brann III (Michelle); daughters, Kay Brann Lindsey (Robert), Kim Brann, Martha Brann Rosenstein (Craig); six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. David Garza MD (Stephanie) a sister, Ada Garza Pewitt, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. She attended services at St Joseph's Catholic Church-Honey Creek in Spring Branch and was active in Catholic Daughters. A voracious reader, she was active in Friends of the Library. The Rosary will be at 7pm on Thursday, October 6th at St Joseph's. The Memorial Mass will begin at 1pm on Friday, October 7th at St Joseph's. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Daughters of the Americas #2260.

What a dear lady! She is my sister-in-law’s sister and I came to know her and love her as much as if she were my own sister. Many people will have a void in their lives, with her passing, but she leaves wonderful memories.
My sincerest condolences in the passing of my Dear CDA Sister Emma. A beautiful woman with a lovely soul, she will be missed. Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Through all of Emma’s ups and downs she always had a smile on her face and joy in her heart. She was my CDA Prayer Pal a few years ago when I was going through a challenge in my life. Her sweet notes and messages arrived just when I needed them. Emma will be missed by all of us who she called her sisters.
I have known Emma since our years of teaching at Hobby Middle School. What a joy to reconnect after she moved into the Bulverde/Spring Branch area. We enjoyed luncheons with other Hobby and Neff friends. There just are no words. It is a loss to so many who knew her and admired her.
My memories of Emma are so sweet and dear. Jim, I feel your loss—just as I felt when I lost Duffie. Memories are so special and you and Emma shared so many wonderful years together. Please know that you and your precious family are in my many thoughts and prayers. Kay Baker
Mimi was such a wonderful and sweet woman who is in my fondest memories with the Brann/Lindsey family. I was blessed to know her and my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Oh, how I am going to miss my sweet and dear CDA sister. She was one of a kind. As my Prayer Pal she had the right things to say to me on a card or her support was always on her face with a smile and a slight nod. I only had the pleasure to know her these last 5 years, but she will always be in my heart. To those that had her longer in your lives, you were so blessed. Thank you Lord for my time with her. Your family will be in my prayers through this tuff adjustment, God Bless you all.
Emma was my lifetime friend. We met as freshmen at Pan American University, now, the University of Texas at Pan Am, in Edingburg, Texas. We became fast friends and I was a bridesmaid at her wedding to Jim. After that freshman year in college, life took us in different directions, but every time we came together, it was as if we had never been apart. Emma, her sister, Ada, and I were friends with other Pan Am freshmen and we formed a friendship group and called ourselves “The Valley Girls.” we celebrated our friendship with dinners at each other’s homes or in restaurants. These ocassions were very special to all of us. We thank God for for allowing us to wind up in close proximity so that our bonds of love and friendship continued to grow, Thank you, God, also for the gift of friendship, Emma was so very special and we will miss her so much. She was beautiful, bright, generous, with the gift of wit that woud generate peals of laughter. Rest in peace, dearest friend, until we meet again,
Jim and Family, I taught with Emma at Boone Elementary School. Can you believe that was 44 years ago? I remember well the fun we had as well as the trials we experienced in the “new open concept” method. Please convey my condolences to your family.
