Evangelina Aguirre, affectionately known by all as "Vangie", passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday afternoon, November 8, 2017 at Sundance Inn at the age of 82. Vangie was born on September 9, 1935 in New Braunfels to Jose Castaneda and Senona Esparza Castaneda. Vangie later married the love of her life, Miguel "Mickey" Aguirre on June 27, 1954 in New Braunfels. She later enjoyed a long and successful career, spanning some 38-years, as the house keeping supervisor for what was then McKenna Memorial Hospital. Vangie is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Miguel "Mickey" Aguirre, who passed away on April 27, 2013; son in-law, Adolfo "Dolfie" Hernandez; two brothers, Alfonso Castaneda and Victor "Lupe" Castaneda and two sisters, Martina Rodriguez and Henriqueta Salazar. Survivors include her children, Johnny Aguirre, Mike Aguirre, III and wife, Diana, Judy Hernandez, Gerard Aguirre and Vickie Flores and husband, Raul; grandchildren, Stephanie Armendariz, Marisela Lopez, Johnny Aguirre, Jr., Miguel Aguirre, IV, Adrianna Marie Aguirre, Mike Hernandez, David Hernandez, Melanie Caballero, Joseph Aguirre, Marcus Aguirre, Marissa Aguirre, Megan Rae Flores, John Phillip Flores and Bianca Marie Flores. In addition, Vangie is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and one soon to be great-granddaughter. Pallbearers will be Johnny Aguirre, Jr., Miguel Aguirre, IV, Mike Hernandez, David Hernandez, John P. Flores and Joseph Aguirre, with Marcus Aguirre serving as an honorary pallbearer. The family would like to acknowledge and give a special thank you to Rita Martinez, Sandra Lopez and Mark Messenger with Med Team and the team of Hope Hospice for the loving care and support given to Vangie and her family. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Monday morning, November 13, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 AM. All services will end at the conclusion of the Funeral Mass. Following the Mass, a reception will be held in St. Marys Hall of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
