Franklin Chad “Spanky” Matejek, age 47, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022. Chad was born Nov. 4, 1975, in Houston, TX, to Franklin Matejek and Ann Rogers Matejek. Chad loved to spend time with family and friends. Chad was a strong silent type with a firm handshake and a kind heart who supported his family and friends in every way imaginable. An exceptionally generous man, he made sure everyone around him knew they were important and loved. An amazing husband, who cared for and hopelessly devoted his heart to his wife, Sara Matejek; a doting father, who would do anything for his children; and a loving grandpa to his three adorable youngsters, Chad will be missed by many and forgotten by none. While not the loudest man in the room, he was quick-witted. If you listened closely, he’d inspire a belly laugh from just about anyone. Chad was a man of many talents. Aside from possessing a Texas-sized heart full of love for all, he was an avid fisher, hunter and handyman who chose to always share his joy by surrounding himself with family and friends. He loved few things more than barbequing up his catch or kill from a day out to nourish his loved ones who gathered around to share a laugh. Never a man to shy away from a hard day’s work – or week or month – Chad founded his own company with a friend and business partner. He brought people's visions of homeownership or business ownership to life, building dreams into reality by way of construction. An enormous amount of gratitude from Chad’s family goes to Hope Hospice, Nurse Shelly and Chaplain Mike for their compassion and consideration during a painful time. Chad was preceded in death by his mother. Survived by his father; loving wife, Sara Matejek; children, Cody, Westley, Ross, Haylee, Kelcee and Lacee; grandchildren, Levi, Walker and Easton. He is also survived by a large extended family. Visitation and a service will be Nov. 19. The visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a service to begin at 3 p.m. Both will be at 1254 N. Business IH-35, New Braunfels 78130.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I knew Spanky many years thru Tish and Jason. When he would finish a day’s work, he always took time to sit on their porch and visit with me. He was a special man and loved like family by my grandsons, JJ and Jake. I’m sorry for your loss.

    Prayers, Elaine Smith

  2. Chad was always a kind happy fellow. Lost touch with his family but I thought of him often so sorry for his family. So glad he had a large family RIP young man. Ann and Ralph Bradford

  3. Chad was the best stepdad there was! He made every practice, game and school activity I participated in growing up and most recently he got to be present for my wedding and it will be a memory that I will cherish for a lifetime. I can’t imagine going on life without him and wishing him a happy birthday or happy Father’s Day but I have the best memories to look back on and cherish forever. I will miss you dearly Chad, watch over all of us. Love, Kelcee

  4. To my friend of 37 years the miles were hard but always filed with love and excitement And made for some great stories

  5. I don’t even know where to begin. I am at a loss for words writing this. You were the best thing that happened to us when you came into our lives when I was 3 years old. You were the best step dad that we could ever ask for. Thank you for caring for us. I feel like I have too many good memories to only share one memory. You will forever be missed. We love you! ❤️

  6. My dad meant everything to me, i remember always wanting to be just like him growing up. Although i grew up to be a bit different than him, he still loved me and was proud of me all the same. I just wish i could tell him how proud i am of him too.

  7. Chad, you will never be forgotten. You came into my life when I was around 7 years and I am so thankful for everything you did for me growing up. Chad drove me all over multiple states so that I could run track. He was at all of my school or sporting events. He took me hunting, fishing, camping and taught me to love the outdoors. Even when I had a baby at 18, Chad was there to help without any complaints. There are way to many memories to mention, and I will cherish every one. I miss and love you!

    Love,
    Haylee

  8. We will miss Chad deeply, he will remain in our thoughts and prayers forever. Our warmest condolences, the Persyn Family.

  9. Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

  10. Chad shot his first deer when hunting on my land back in Boerne, Texas. He was 9 years old and so thrilled and excited. What a sweet and smart boy he was. I’m sending a large hug to his beautiful family with a prayer for them to find strength and peace in God and each other during this very sad and trying time. So sorry for Chad and all who loved him.
