Gilbert Turley, Jr.

Our beloved Gilbert John Turley, Jr., age 73, son of the late Gilbert and Eva Turley, entered the Gates of Heaven on Friday, June 24, 2022, surrounded by grace, prayer and loved ones at his side. Born July 10, 1948, in Lampasas, Texas, Gilbert grew up living in many places across Texas. His family settled in New Braunfels when he was in 8th grade and that is where he met the love of his life, Sharon Reininger. They married in 1970 and were together until his death, over 52 years. They were blessed with two loving children, Shannon Marie Melton and Dylan Jagger Turley. Gilbert worked at different jobs throughout the years, from the textile plant, dynamite blasting and then as maintenance director for Navarro ISD for 24 years. In 1999 he went into early retirement after a truck accident, but that is when his started doing what he really loved - MAKING CROSSES! He will always be remembered for his beautiful, handcrafted wooden crosses and his words of salvation he shared when he sold or gave them away. He also used this time to participate in the Emmaus and Kairos ministries where he helped bring many others to Christ. He loved talking on the phone and visiting with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Turley and their children, Shannon and husband John, and Dylan and wife Cheryl. Also grandchildren Christopher Pastrano, Anthony Pastrano, Ava Miller and Lauryn Turley, as well as great grandchildren, Jason, Adrian, Micah, Lily and Hollie. One sister, Judy Smith and many loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in law. He will be remembered always by them and many other loving family members and friends. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family requests donations be given to myastheniagravis.org in honor of Gilbert. A Graveside Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 9:30am Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Lone Oak Cemetery in Geronimo, Texas. The family extends special thanks to the physicians and nurses of Resolute Hospital, New Braunfels Regional Rehabilitation Hospital and Kindred Hospice. With tearful eyes we watched you And saw you fade away, Although we loved you dearly We could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating Your tender hands at rest, God took you home to prove to us He only takes the best.
