Glenn Howard Hickman

Glenn Howard Hickman, Sr. (9/16/1915-10/9/2016) passed away on Sunday morning in New Braunfels, Texas, after a long life of love and service to his Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Alva, OK to parents, A. Blake and Nellie Hickman, Glenn was the oldest of 4 children. In 1939, Glenn married the love of his life, Lila Moore and they went on to have four children: Katy & Chuck Hunsberger, Glenn, Jr & Donna Marie Hickman, Nancy & Steven Maker, and Marianne & Steve Smith. Glenn served his country for 26 years in the United States Army rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel before entering full-time ministry as the pastor of Ebenezer & Salem Methodist Churches in Winfield, MD. He and Lila moved to Arkansas in 1982 and pastored several churches there for 22 years before moving to New Braunfels, TX in 2004. Even after he retired from the pastorate, Glenn dedicated his life to serving his Lord and loving others. He was totally committed to spreading the gospel throughout the world and giving to missions was an integral part of his life. All those who knew him, knew how deeply he loved his Lord. This love overflowed from his life, enabling him to love and serve others in a myriad of ways.
Glenn is survived by his wife Lila, his 4 children and their spouses, his 12 grandchildren and spouses: Rebecca, John & Courtney, and Molly Hunsberger; Christina & Shaun Sullivan, Blake & Crystal Hickman; Julie & Blake Williams, Lila & Kevin Yocum, Joanna & Dustin Sutherland; Jennifer & Kevin Quinn, Daniel & Concetta, Angela, and Benjamin & Camrie Smith and 14 great-grandchildren. He has left a legacy of faith that spans four generations and has impacted multiple continents.
His first love was Jesus Christ, and we celebrate the fact that he is now more alive than he ever was as he stands in the presence of his Lord, & and has heard from His Lord, "Well done, good & faithful servant." (Matt. 25: 21)
His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Freedom Fellowship, New Braunfels, TX, officiated by his son in law, Rev. Steven Maker (Chapel Presbyterian Church, Beaver, PA). Full military interment honors will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
First in Glenn's heart and mind was that others should know the joy and peace of a relationship with Jesus Christ, both at home, and throughout the nations of the world. He invested his life, prayers, and finances into seeing that desire become reality, that faith become sight. In honor of his desire, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers or other tributes, donations be sent to Hope Ventures International, 158 Roadrunner Avenue, New Braunfels, TX 78130, to be divided among mission organizations represented by his family: TeachBeyond USA, Coalition for Christian Outreach, and Bethlehem Bible College.

What a legacy he left. One we all wish and can pray we leave when we are called Home. My heartfelt condolences and prayer for your mom as well, Marianne. I will be out of town Wednesday but you and the family will be in my heart.
You were a Man of Honor and deeply loved by all those who knew you. I am pondering the wonderful times we spent together and the influence you had on my children as a wise Godly man. You were a servant and a generous man who had a heart to help the needy. You had the Vision for a local Outreach and started the Alma Community Center twenty years ago and now has grown into a big Outreach for our area. YOUR FRUIT IS STILL BEING HARVESTED. I love how you always recognized my voice when I called, and always chuckled. I will treasure your love and love you invested in the Drinkwitz family. We will meet again Papa Glen in Heaven forever loving Jesus !
Glenn was my mentor and friend. He met me at the alter at Ebenezer UMC on February 23, 1975. He and Lila poured into me and Terri over a 7 year period before they retired and moved away. I have told countless people how Glenn and Lila mentored and taught us God’s word. I love Glenn & Lila & family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Mr. Hickman was one who embodied all those characteristics that we ascribe to God Himself–honesty, trustworthiness, integrity, faithfulness. Though I did not know him well, nevertheless, I always felt inspired to greater heights when I found myself in his presence, if only a chance meeting in the aisle of a grocery store. Surely, he will be greatly missed by his family, but you can keep him close by embracing the love and grace which marked his long life as a God-fearing man. Please accept my condolences.
Papa Glenn, I really loved you. Such a joy to be around a man so full of honor and faith. You were truly one of the finest men I’ve ever known. You really were “gooder than ary angel”. God bless you and your family.

Bro. Glen was a steady voice for me. I sought his counsel on a few occasions, and his wisdom was invaluable. What a testimony!!

Thousands of people in the Alma area are indebted to Bro. Glenn who founded the Alma Community Outreach Center some eighteen or twenty years ago and served as the Director for many years before moving to Texas. He left us with a strong foundation of service to those in need in this area, developing many of the guidelines that the Outreach Center follows today. We appreciate all he did and the Christian base he founded the Outreach Center on.

We lived about a half mile from the Salem church in the 60’s and 70’s. Even though I did not know him, God bless him for his wonderful life of ministry to the lord.
