James Hayes

James Michael Hayes (Jim) passed away October 31, 2022 at the age of 90. He was born March 19, 1932 in Concordia, Kansas to Norman and Dorothy Hayes. He graduated from Concordia High School and soon after joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. There he met his wife of 62 years, Shirley (Moeller) of New Braunfels, Texas and they married in November of 1953. Together they raised their 8 children living in New Braunfels, Texas and Wichita and Aurora, Kansas. Jim was a salesman with various companies during his early years. In 1961 he fell in love with square dancing and decided to become a square dance caller. In 1974 he left his sales job behind and became a full time square dance caller. In 2014 he was inducted into the Kansas Square Dance Association Hall of Fame (to see his webpage go to kansassquaredance.com/hayes.html). Jim enjoyed traveling all over the United States in their camper, stopping to call dances along the way. Jim is preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley (Moeller) Hayes, his grandson Robert (Robbie) Hayes and his brother John Hayes. He is survived by his sisters Mary Desilet and Kelly Fielding, his eight children; Michael Hayes (Lisa), Caprice Calamaio (Barry), Greg Hayes, Cassandra Rivas (Balt), John Hayes (Vickie), Christine Standerfer (Brent), Kent Hayes (Cynthia), and Josh Hayes (Carrie), his seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The immediate family will have a private memorial service. We invite you to attend a funeral reception on November 19, 2022 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at 2418 Black Bear Drive, New Braunfels, TX.
