James "Jim" Ropp

James Wallace Ropp, age 81 passed away peacefully at his home in New Braunfels, TX on May 26, 2022, holding hands with his wife Sandy, as they done for over 62 years. He was the son of Claude and Madeline Ropp of Indiana. Jim was preceded in death by his brother Richard Ropp and two sisters, Pat Flowers and Karen Combs. He has one surviving sister, Peggy Allman and husband Bob. He leaves behind two daughters, Jama Henderson and husband David, Julie Johnston and husband Drew III and a son Jay Ropp. He was preceded in death of a grandson James Dean Ropp. Jim has 6 surviving grand-children Ilea Henderson, David Henderson Jr. and wife Kai, Jamie Henderson and wife Erin, Drew Johnston IV and wife Caitlin, Jessica Wilbur and husband Micah and Janelle Ropp. He also leaves behind 9 great-grand-children who he adored. Jim graduated from Purdue University. He was commissioned through ROTC and proudly served in the US Air Force where he was a navigator on B-52’s. After a medical retirement he went into Civil Service as an instructor in various career fields. While teaching Jim attained a master’s degree at the University of Illinois. He retired one last time in May 2000 in Biloxi, MS. He and his wife, Sandy moved to Clearwater, FL to enjoy sunshine, loved ones and Disney. In 2021 they moved to New Braunfels, TX to be close to family. Jim’s priority in life was always his love of God first and foremost, a close 2nd was his wife Sandy, then his family and friends followed!

  3. Sandy, I was so sad to hear of Jim’s death. I send my deepest condolences. You know George and I thought so very much of him, loved him like a brother, so much so that we gave our oldest son his name (Rory James). I have many fond memories of our times together, especially those early morning all day trips to the Indiana State Fair! So so many wonderful memories. Jim was a terrific guy! George and I thought so much of him, loved him like a brother, so much so that we named our oldest son after him and Ray (Rory James). I have stored up so many wonderful fun memories of you and him, especially the many early morning all day trips to the Indiana State Fair! I pray God’s comfort for you and your family.
